Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2019 Oakridge Chardonnay Vineyard Series Henk 92 Points

Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

Blind. Mineral/steely nose with smoky notes along with lime and yellow florals. Palate is rich and full but the fruit has depth with lovely texture to it. Impressive how it's drives into very good length even with the richness.

  • 2019 Shaw and Smith Chardonnay M3 Vineyard 88 Points

Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills

Blind. Orange, vanilla and lemon notes on the nose. Palate leans more mineral here, it's quite lean and clean - though it tails away and only has shortish-medium length. Not bad but not hitting tonight even though I've liked it in the past.

  • 2019 Savaterre Chardonnay 88 Points

    Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth

Blind. Heavy on the oak aromas, there is a whack of vanilla and a light mandarin note trying to come through. Fruit on the palate is amped up to match and does cover it up, though the package is quite dense as a result. Not really together right now, though it could turn around with time if the oak settles?

  • 2019 Giaconda Chardonnay Estate Vineyard 93 Points

    Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth

Single blind. Lemon with apple, pear, smoky toast and white florals on the nose. Very composed on the palate, textured and with depth and length. Excellent acidity, giving the fruit great verve and lift. Really delicious wine and should age well also.

  • 2020 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Monthélie 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Monthélie

Blind. Apple and pear, fairly light on the nose. Well balanced on the palate, a nice mix of lean fruit and tight acidity. Good length and while it isn't too exciting overall, it's well made in a more delicate style.

  • 2014 Tissot (Bénédicte et Stéphane / André et Mireille) Arbois Vin Jaune W 88 Points

    France, Jura, Arbois

Smoky, caramel, vanilla, floral and lime on the nose. Super tangy on the palate, really takes hold of the palate even over and above the oxidative notes. Interesting wine and good to try, though not something I'd go back for
