Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88.3 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by dsamuel on 6/23/2023 & rated 89 points: Dark purple color with moderate clearing at rim
Medium plus aromas of plum/ blueberry with light tobacco notes
Medium palate of red and blue fruit - lacking on secondary notes and midpalate seems quite thin
Medium plus to high acidity with medium tannins and medium alcohol
Primarily fruit driven wine with little complexity but remains enjoyable
Lacking midpalate and appears a bit disjointed due to this but did improve with 1-2 days in the bottle
Would recommend a decant due to fairly large amount of sediment in bottle (469 views)
Tasted by mike l. on 4/24/2023 & rated 83 points: i dont get it. it's closed and tight and boring on day 1. more inviting on day 4 but really no reason to buy this. (617 views)
Tasted by tbriggs on 2/26/2023: A little off the first night, so much better the second, acidity and tannin really coming together. (562 views)
Tasted by Jmac56 on 11/3/2022 & rated 88 points: Minimal floral nose. While not especially familiar with the Cesar grape, it appears to have a fruity, chalky and acidic nature. Interesting but not to my taste. (664 views)
Tasted by DBdeParis on 7/20/2022: Thanks all prior tasters for excellent descriptions. Double aerated this and are experiencing no rough edges. Nice acids and tannins. A bit short on body - otherwise would say structurally similar to a good Dolcetto of comparable age. Likewise will give bottles 2 & 3 a couple cellar years to see what happens. But for the price will get more if this comes around again. (720 views)
Tasted by Aparritz on 7/18/2022 & rated 91 points: @aravindasok has this spot on - especially the notes about mint and tarragon. Cool introduction to a new grape (for me).

No rush to drink this. I’m curious what the next few years may do to bottles 2 and 3. Rimmerman suggests a drinking window for another 10 years, and a decant! (504 views)
Tasted by Jmac56 on 6/6/2022 & rated 89 points: Interesting wine, not familiar with the Cesar grape so hard to rate. Nice grapey nose. Medium bodied wine with nice fruit, similar to Pinot in taste. (908 views)
Tasted by tbriggs on 4/15/2022: High acid with a nice grippy tannin that’s pretty well integrated. Bright black fruit, nose and mouth somewhat reminiscent of a Savoie style Pinot, gamay, mondeuse blend. (904 views)
Tasted by mtaczak on 3/19/2022: can't tell if "rustic" or lightly corked. (751 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 1/15/2022: 100% Cesar. Popped yesterday. First time I've tried this grape by itself. On the nose: like a mix of Gamay and Syrah; the weight of a N. Rhone Syrah and the cherry pit intensity of cru Beaujolais; loads of raspberry and cherry pit, fresh soft mint and tarragon. On the palate: nice weight, excellent acidity, juicy red cherry. Gorgeous color. Soft but gripping tannin on the finish, which is a bit short. Interesting and I enjoyed this, but my wife found it too rustic on the palate. (822 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Coteaux Bourguignons
