Tasted by stayhappy21 on 5/19/2023 & rated 90 points: Drank this at Tunglok Signatures at Central for dinner with my wine mates. Theme of the evening: Wines from 2006 Australia.

Formal notes to follow. (710 views)
Tasted by Ex-Ray on 7/3/2022 & rated 90 points: Last tasted Aug. 2020; our last bottle. Showing its age, with slight prune notes in the aroma and flavors. Full-bodied, with a coarse texture, typical of Mollydooker, thick and chewy, still dark and opaque. Prominent aromas of Aussie shiraz. Time to drink up.

Tasted by gteran76 on 3/16/2022 & rated 92 points: Opened for about 30 min and then “Mollyshake”.

The wine is fantastic integrated and balanced. Medium plus body, nice mid palate and even better finish.

Drink now but no rush either. (1286 views)
Tasted by Adventr.us on 5/19/2021 & rated 87 points: It’s true my preferences have evolved since I bought this one, but even so, I think I just waited too long to open this final bottle. It was nice, with fruit a bit muted, on open. (I prefer that now to the fruit bomb this was in its youth, so no issue.) Unfortunately the fruit further faded with some air, and it’s the heat on the back end that dominates as I sip it after dinner. I’m feeling a lot less guilty that I poured a half cup of this into the steak-topping mushroom sauce rather than open something cheaper (it did work great in the sauce!) (1817 views)
Tasted by AP MD on 2/2/2021 & rated 99 points: Popped and aerated in a decanter over about an hour. Drank with homemade chili, and it barely stood up. Surprising for a big Aussie shiraz. Notes of prune, blackberry and blueberries on the nose. Tannins are softening. Still very chewy like a typical Mollydooker, just muted. Finish is not nearly as long as this wine had 5 years ago. Overall, recommend finishing up this vintage soon, as it's nearing it's end. (1719 views)
Tasted by Ex-Ray on 8/17/2020 & rated 93 points: Starting to show its age, with slight prune notes in the aroma and flavors. Full-bodied, with a coarse texture, typical of Mollydooker, thick and chewy, still dark and opaque. Prominent aromas of Aussie shiraz. Very nice with ribs, but time to drink up.

Tasted by rexmerlot on 5/14/2020 & rated 89 points: Clear dark purple in colour. Notes of Raspberry, raspberry and raspberry. Dry, med acidity, a big bodied wine, smooth tannin. Can't believe how big this wine is even after 14 years. This wine is truly a wine that has no middle ground. You either love this style of wine or do not like it. Drank as a port, it is interesting. But as a wine with dinner, unless you are eating ribs, it is not great. I used to like this type of wine in past, but now find it just too much. (1496 views)
Tasted by Ex-Ray on 1/9/2020 & rated 93 points: Dark garnet-purple, still opaque, with hints of brown at the edges. Powerful but typical shiraz aromas of deep black fruits, smoky oak. Very viscous. Still very concentrated fruit, power over elegance or complexity, hasn't moved much since it was young. High alcohol, hot and long finish. Good for a glass or two but then becomes over the top. I don't think it will evolve much further, so best to drink over the next few years.

Tasted by lmbernstein on 11/3/2019 & rated 92 points: Raspberry jam. Medium finish. Dark garnet. Delicious. Any complexity is overwhelmed by fruit but tasty. Better on Day 2. (1536 views)
Tasted by vinhonotte on 8/27/2019 & rated 92 points: BYOB with friends - Cartoon label theme (The Masses Singapore): A powerful blend of black cherries, cassis, blueberry, cloves, and some tar and peat. Could feel the high alcohol warmth though, but fortunately the intensity made up (1491 views)
Tasted by fournet on 7/19/2019 & rated 90 points: Nothing stands out here. Middle of the road wine without much nuance. I last tried this 8-9 years ago, and it continues to feel young/brooding. My guess is this will never evolve into something that is complex. (1286 views)
Tasted by Schiffy on 6/17/2019 & rated 94 points: This Aussie Cab blend is drinking perfectly right now. Super, silky smooth tannins integrate with soft blackberry fruit with hints of vanilla, mocha and chocolate. Doesn’t need much time to open up and express itself. Sadly, this is my last bottle.  Tasted by Papies on 12/28/2018 & rated 91 points: Screw cap , 66% Shiraz / 34% Cab Sauv, 16% Alc. Decanted and poured and frankly the wine change very little over the hour we had it.
Dark color, rich ripe and juicy but also enjoyable in its style and we felt the cab Sauv albeit not that noticeable tames the Shiraz and keeps it honest vs spice and that usual new world sweetness. Better with rich food or well aged meat. What we found facinating is that at age 12 this was very much on the money and shows capacity to age and easily has another 10 yrs in the tank. Good wine albeit the rich and ripe side of it makes it a bit one dimensional. 90-91 but we could see how this could be rated more by people who like the style. (1881 views)
Tasted by Saintock on 10/7/2018 & rated 92 points: Dark orange red. Lots of alcohol but din feel it. Well balance. Floral nose with some spice, acidity on the palate. (2240 views)
Tasted by G_H on 4/17/2018 & rated 94 points: Bold wine, lots of fruit but balanced with a very well integrated acidity. This ages much better than its siblings (with the exception of the Velvet glove). (2632 views)
Tasted by nick.whit on 4/12/2018 & rated 87 points: Stewed cherries and plum nose, with blackberry lurking. Oak comes through on the palate, with a lot of christmas cake spice and slight medicinal undertones, and earth and coffee. Very soft mouthfeel, and a lot of alcohol. An exceedingly fleshy and jammy wine. Lacks length I would expect from a bottle at this price. Full bodied, as to be expected. This wine is big, simple and uncouth and there is far too much alcohol for my tastes. Some may like this style but I certainly did not enjoy this, and would have been disappointed to have paid full price for it. Drink now, I can't see it improving or changing from here. (2347 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 5/12/2017 & rated 91 points: - Garnet color with slow forming legs. It's balanced and has flavours of black currant, blackberry and chocolate with a full body. Fleshy texture with a long finish - Loaded with a lot of fruit. Almost syrup in nature. Delicious wine. (3454 views)
Tasted by Grant_gib on 5/7/2017 & rated 92 points: Excellent. Solid structure, well balanced. Hints of toasted almond and licorice. (3050 views)
Tasted by Peech on 1/5/2017 & rated 93 points: opened but not decanted for 3 hours prior to serving. Really, really sweet, with lots of vanilla and cedar notes. (206 views)
Tasted by BURGHen Boy on 12/31/2016 & rated 90 points: Smoother profile than the COL. Fruit not as forward and blends well from start to finish. Alcohol is somewhat noticeable on finish (3416 views)
Tasted by Cikgoo on 12/31/2016 & rated 95 points: Starts slow but after 1hr in decanter it starts to show its power! Great Cab Shiraz with oak, chocolate and wood (2632 views)
Tasted by burgburgburg on 9/30/2016 & rated 90 points: A well made and typical bordeaux blend Oz -- heavy oak influence and high in alcohol level. Heavy in body. (3047 views)
Tasted by SICILIAN-SOLE on 9/18/2016 & rated 93 points: Mostly dark fruit from the syrah on the nose, but savory cab dominates the palate. Drinking great, but is still fresh and can could go a few more years. A big wine but great balance...delicious! (1832 views)
Tasted by AnonymousCoward on 7/17/2016 & rated 92 points: My second bottle of this. Shiraz and cabernet complimenting each other well, with cassis and dark fruits on the palate with spices and some oak vanilla notes. Long finish, well integrated tannins - the smooth taste belies the 16% alcohol. No heat detected at all. Yummy. (2157 views)
Tasted by AnonymousCoward on 3/20/2016 & rated 93 points: Drinking very nicely now, despite the 16% alcohol. Fruit and spices on the palate, with the shiraz and cabernet complementing each other nicely. Well integrated tannins, giving a nice long finish. (2141 views)

Cabernet-Shiraz Blend

A very popular blend in Australia-particularly from South Australia, where the two varietals work well together. The most famous of these would be the Penfolds Bin 389, considered Australia's most cellared wine. In years gone by this was referred to as "Baby Grange" as some of the wine used barrels from the vintage of Grange.

The 2018 Paternus states only McLaren Vale Shiraz (no Cab Sav).
