The best Barthod I’ve had. Served blind. Lots of fruit intensity but with structure. The over riding flavour is palma violes. Impressive this is only a village! From DrK

These wines have a lot of bottle variation, so mine seems like a totally different wine compared to others!
First of all, super volatile. The cork had popped up and broken the wax capsule. Inside was a very fizzy wine due to lack of SO2. Exceptionally pale, basically like a sparkling rose.
All that aside, what a lovely wine! Super fresh and interesting - I just love this maker.

Served blind: easy to call the best northern Rhone: so Much barnyard and classic old world flavours, would not have thought South African. A dead ringer for the best hermitage. From YH at Kingyu

5/6/2014 4:51:00 AM - Hi Catenac Brown,
I saw your comment/question on HBL 2010 and I thought my experieces with these wines may be helpful for you.
Generally I start to open right bank bordeaux with 8 years of age, left banks with 10 years. I like them most between 12 and 18 years of age. But all this depends also on the vintage...
Coming back to yur wine I think HBL made a very dense and extracted (not overextracted), classic Paulliac with high acidity and tannin in 2010. This wine will need time.
So appling the general rule mentioned before I would say to open the first ones 2022 just for having a first glance...
It's obviously a matter of personal taste, but either you open them young and fruity (what works out very well for 2009 bdx, not for 2010) or you need to be patient.
Hope this helps... best regards from Zurich, Edgar
1/2/2014 4:03:00 AM - Thanks Mike! I'm new to all this too so still trying to figure out when, and what, to drink! I managed to get three bottles so may try my first in 2015 and see how it goes. Enjoy the world of wine!
1/2/2014 3:39:00 AM - O.....reviews indicate 2014-2024. I am new to this and will not wait very long. I went back to the wine shop and someone had bought all of the Il Boro...though I was later able to find two more bottles. I will open one in late 2014 and another in late 2015. This was a very unique wine for me. Regards.
