  • 2018 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits St. Georges Au Bas de Combe

    Nose: dark fruits, iron
Notes: 14% ABV. This wine was quite sunny and ripe in nature. Very fruity/jammy kind of feel to it. Nose is very muted right now, you can feel differnet types of aroma packed together but unable to differentiate which is which. The fact that this is coming from a hot year likely made it worse. Again this is definitely not something I like or enjoy and I continue to feel this Domaine is over extracted and not subtle. I think I've tasted plenty from the Domaine and the style has been consistently concentrated.

  • 2003 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Combe des Fous

Nose: rose, plum, white pepper, honey, red date, hints of hoisin sauce, tar, leaves, chocolate
Notes: 14.5% ABV. Believed to be the first vintage of thie cuvee. Drinking at a good spot now the tannins softened and the wine is very gentle now. A relatively sweet palate and I would definitely consider Clos Saint Jean to be one of the more sophisticated makers from the region who can overcome the heat and bring in subtlety and finesse. This may feel a bit older than its actually age but I see many 2003 Chateauneuf-du-Pape end up like this so despite the heat from the year this could be the characteristics of the vintage for this region.

  • 2016 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe aux Moines Vieille Vigne

Nose: red fruits, mung beans, strawberry, spices,
Notes: Opened for 9 hours before consuming. This is a pretty good showcase of red fruits and spices and this has an outstanding nose although the palate is a little young still. The fine mix of strawberry and spices on the nose gave this wine additional appeal for me and coming from a big year the wine has a good structure too on top of the fine nose. I liked this wine and feels that there are plenty of potential in it. Too early to drink now but I wouldn't mind popping this once in a while to check in on the progress!
