The penultimate bottle from a full case bought in 1977, and laid down since. Over the years bottle variation to be sure, but this has to be one of the best. Almost no bricking, from the color in the glass the wine appeared 20 years younger than it is. The fill was still lower neck, and while the cork fell apart upon opening, it had done its job in protecting this amazing wine
Gorgeous classic aged-claret nose from the start and it kept going and going during a 3 hour dinner. Cedar box, lots of dark fruits still present and perfectly integrated tannins. They don’t make wines like this any more.

Oh my this is a surprise. Very tertiary but absolutely delicious nose of black cherry, mint, leather and herbs. Knockout.
Needs a bit of air to fill out but not much. Attractively sweet, with fading tannins but just enough acidity to prop everything up. Not super-concentrated, but feels fresh rather than dilute.
Wish I had some more of these. One of those wines which reminds me why old Bordeaux is so good.
From a good looking bottle, with a base neck fill. This was good and highly drinkable, but it lacked complexity and an extra gear. There is some nice fruit still and some silkiness from all the years. Simple, pleasant, ready. 89-90 pts.

In the opulent echelons of the wine world, the 1970 Château La Lagune stands as an aristocrat amongst vintages, embodying a refined sophistication that resonates deeply with the palate of the discerning upper society which was surprising considering I reached over the Mouton’s and the Screaming Eagles to nab two bottles for Christmas dinner. Unveiling this treasure, I embarked on a sensory journey that transcended mere tasting, delving into an experience steeped in history and elegance.
As a purveyor of life's adventures, I've trekked across landscapes both vast and serene, seeking the untamed beauty that resonates within nature's embrace. This wine, reminiscent of my explorations, evoked a sense of rugged charm, much like the untamed wilderness of the Yukon. Its robust character, enveloped in layers of complexity, echoed the Aurora Borealis that danced across the Yukon skies—a tantalizing spectacle much akin to the kaleidoscope of flavors unfurling upon my palate.
Music, the soul's melodious expression, finds resonance in the symphony of flavors within this vintage. Each sip unfolded like a crescendo, awakening memories of chords struck and rhythms embraced. The 1970 Château La Lagune, with its harmonious medley of spice and bell pepper, orchestrated a symphony of taste—a serenade reminiscent of my fervor for composing soulful ballads.
This wine unfurled memories of a love affair kindled amidst the ethereal glow of the northern lights in Dawson City. There, in a rustic cabin, beneath the celestial display, this vintage was uncorked, marking an evening where our hearts intertwined amidst the cosmic ballet above. Its rich, enticing notes mirrored the warmth of our connection, each sip a reflection of our shared intimacy—an indelible moment encapsulated within the essence of this wine. Yes, I was but 16 and she was a mere 32 but proud was I to have embraced my English teacher in such a way.
Yes I know what they call it these days, but in my days it was a blessing…..
The 1970 Château La Lagune, a tapestry woven with threads of spice and bell pepper, also whispered tales of innocence and rain-kissed reverie. Its robust structure, interlaced with the pad of a young maiden's foot in the rain, transported me to moments of unadulterated purity—each element contributing to a symphony of sensory delights.
In conclusion, this vintage wine transcends the confines of mere liquid indulgence. The 1970 Château La Lagune, with its evocative flavor profile, serves as a vessel—a conduit to memories of exploration, passion, and the ethereal dance of love under the northern lights. It is more than a wine; it's a conduit to a tapestry of experiences—a testament to the intertwining threads of upper society's sophistication, an adventurous spirit's quest for the unknown, the rhythmic heartbeat of musical passion, and the embrace of unforgettable romance.

Xmas eve dinner 2023: decanted for approx. 3 hours (cold storage); dark crimson color with some light brownish reflections; started with malty notes in the nose but soon gave way to an intense bouquet of strawberries and red cherries; noble feathery texture with a mild balancing acidity.
Excellent bottle in classic claret style. Mature, but no signs of weariness, still going strong.
