  • I guess for Christoph Tyrell wines the A.P. number might be important:
    A.P. Nr. 3 561 303-03-08 with 11,0% alc.

Colour seemed to be regular. The nose showed scents of lemon peel, light honey, typical herbal touch, freshly shredded wheat, maybe whipped cream and a slight sauerkraut’y character. Pretty much all things considered it seemed largely balanced and really appealing, but surely not super inspirational. The taste showed the typical “house-(resp. Karthäuserberg)-style”. Really lean, a bit herbal-spicy, slightly austere and very well equipped with almost harsh acid (especially for 2007). The last might be something I really don’t like in his dry wines (sorry, bias alert). This Feinherb Kabinett appeared a bit crude and somehow wild. The balance of sweetness and acid seemed to drift apart (just a bit). Perhaps a bit too much sweetie! Surely crisp. The symbiotic qualities weren’t in the best shape. However, still a very enjoyable off-dry Riesling. Not too subtle, nor concentrated. Easy drinking stuff with a hint too much alc. Absolutely fine for weather well beyond 35 C. Like right now.
You may have realized, I am not the biggest fan of Tyrell Rieslings and the “house-style”. Maybe that might explain my modest rating. Anyway, nice and easy wine for little money (approx. 11 Euros). Probably a bit half-baked. Maybe in a year or two better!?! Dunno, if the current 2007 Riesling “dry valley” can be applied to off dries from Ruwer!?!

  • Grosser Ring Tasting of 2007 wines from the Nahe, Mosel, Saar and Ruwer (German Embassy, London): Clean, crisp, gently appley nose. Deep palate. Fair balance. Falls apart a bit on the finish.
