Trediberri Barolo 2017. Dark cherries and anise at first sniff, soon to be followed by tar, forest floor, some rosehip and hint of lighter red berries. Someone said rose, but in that case faint. Nicely balanced between primary fruit and early developed aromas. Not too bold with it’s 14%, and fresh acidity. Good concentration with the palate dominated by red and dark cherries, anise and earthy notes. Was a nice match to, well, nothing but the couch and Lazy friday moods.

Dinner and drinks at Thomson. Drank in Conterno Sensory over 1+ hour. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of whole bunch stems spice, floral rose, baby powder, crushed stones powdered dust minerality, red cherries. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), sticky medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of whole bunch stems spices with slight bitterness, floral rose ?slight bandung, red licorice, ripe red cherries. With more air, heaps of lovely sour red cherries with crushed stones minerally dust, and lots of spiciness. Superb mid-palate mouthfeel. Long finish with sticky tannic bite just to remind you that this is Nebbiolo and not some Burgundy Pinot Noir. Savoury tar earth appearing on day 3. Very good quality. Joyful elegant Barolo ready to party right on pop and pour, and can also age a bit to develop over the next 4-5 years I think.

Found this a touch lean and one-note - there's pretty red fruit here, but it doesn't have the depth of the 2019 version and lacks a few gears compared to various other bottlings I've tried from Trediberri.

Light in colour. 1 hr in: velvet yet lively. Some pleasant bitterness. Balanced tannins. Good now, but i’m happy to have another which will be opened in the not so distant future.

Balanced and powerful. Not world class but had enough oompfh to be utterly enjoyable.
