  • Glowing slightly cloudy ruby under the light. Strong red berry nose with significant alcohol. Medium-bodied with red berry and mild funk. Sweet red berry finish .

  • PnP, but better with some air. The color was a clear medium ruby. There were dark red fruits on the nose. These dark red fruits followed on to the palate along with earth and some spice. The acidity was nicely balancing. Could hold for a couple of years.

  • A touch of reduction blows off to reveal peppery dark fruit, asphalt, and toasty caramel aromas. Shows freshness and brightness, with a nice backbone and mouthwatering acidity. Well made and a really good value.

  • I was prepared to hate it based upon the prior reviewer. I’m not recommending it, but I received a Vinturi as a Christmas gift and if you ever saw the benefit......this is it.

    Appearance - clear, medium, ruby

Nose - youthful, medium plus intensity, red aNd black berries and plums. Alcohol eye burn. Alcohol feels high. Fruit is ripe. Before the vinturi I was convinced it was corked. It tasted old and stale and consistent with the prior reviewer. And the fact that it’s a screw cap made the cork explanation even worse!

Palate - clean, youthful, medium plus intensity, ripe fruit, consistent with nose. Red and black berry fruits. I’m actually getting tannins to compliment fruit. Alcohol is there but it feels balanced. Getting wood on finish. The cedar tingle. I am picking up the smoke.

So, I selected this based upon the M. Chapoutier brand. It is a large scale commercially produced wine. As with many wines during Covid, I’ve paid a premium being in NYC. I think it’s fine for the price. Use a vinturi. Go in with low expectations.

  • Color is a ruby-red. On first pour, neutral fruit tones that are predominantly cherry. It was more acidic than it was tannic, and poured into a decanter. 35 minutes later, it opened up a bit and the fruit notes were more prominent. Secondary I got a whiff of cardboard box and faint smoke, tertiary was more wet gravel/cement.

Medium body, and medium plus alcohol with a medium finish.

I am a fan of Rhône, but this one was a bit tough to like. This would be a bottle I would purchase for people that aren’t necessarily into wine or care as much. I am not sure if I would give this a try again. I had high hopes due to it being from M. Chapoutier, and this bottle being more accessible by price.
