Intoxicating aromatics, chock full of crunchy, chewy dark red berries! The flavors were angular and surprisingly shallow, compared to the awesome smell and there was that funky acidity that seems artificial or contrived. Definitely had potential but I’m thinking that this wine had some issues during fermentation, which they attempted to remedy through over-manipulation. Realistically should have withheld a point or two. (Was definitely our standout wine, during a focused tasting in October. However, did not sense any tart acidity at that time or else it wouldn’t have been, because I’m averse to that in my Pinot’s.)

West Blocks may be my favorite Alexana. I struggle to describe just what it is, but I like the complexity and finish. Drinking well right now, despite being young. The bottle was open for a little over an hour before dinner.

The western blocks of our estate vineyard are west to south-west facing and are composed entirely of various sedimentary soil types. Consistently producing highly structured wines noted for expressing dark brambly fruits and minerality.
Clones: Pommard, 777, Coury, 115, 667
Nose - black cherry, earth, wet stone, nutmeg
Palate - dark, supple, chalky, rich finish
