  • Incredibly rich and complex, with coffee, spice, iron. Almost a confusing wine because of the intensity of the body and richness of the flavors. Went perfectly with venison loin with a cocoa jus and sweet potato purée. A unique wine experience.

  • The texture and concentration is definitely what I expected from the wine, but it's a bit too big. Very big and inky, there's a lot here but it feels a bit overwhelming. Five hours of decanting doesn't budge it one bit. Still feels far from the drinking wine. Fun to compare with the Little Wine series, which are much more approachable young.

  • It's been probably 4.5 years since I've enjoyed this wine. Pulled today in a rather eclectic lineup that included a 2002 Valbuena, 2013 Kosta Browne Gap's Crown Pinot, 2009 Reserve de la Comtesse, and 2009 LeMacchiole Paleo. A few years ago, this wine was quite a bit punchier and dense. And I dare say a little out of balance but the intense character is also what these wines do best. With some years this one has evened out. The wine poured an intense Violet color. Nose and front palate of purple fruit, roasted nuts, cinnamon roll, spice cake, black fruit and tar. The middle has an herbal black fruit thing going on which is a bit new. The finish with iodine, black pepper, spicy, thick and dense. Incredible wine and really has matured since the last time I opened this in 2018. To me, a definite standout in the field. Ton of life left. 10+ years at least.

  • Purple!
This is extremely youthful. Ink, mint, resin, blackberries, black pepper and kalamata olives.
Lots of tannines, which are perfectly ripe and soft. Elegant and powerful, this is so promising, but needs at least three more years in the dungeon. Or 24hrs in the decanter.
    Truly beautiful, pure and graceful.

  • Inky purple, olive brine, violet, mineral. A big wine but still in balance
