Big bubbles that rise quickly and rock the surface. A golden color with a hue of amber.
After pouring a glass and setting it down, I could smell tropical and yellow fruit (candy?) and hints of dairy wafting up. The yeasty second-fermentation-aromas are definitely taking the back seat in this one.
On the palate there is a remarkably generous, creamy roundness, with a smooth underlying acidity that is not fierce but definitely persistent. This is the balance between shapeliness and freshness that I look for in a champagne. However, like the nose, there is not too much brioche happening on the palate. This makes the wine elegant but perhaps a bit too shy. The same can be said for the mousse: while starting out full throttle, after mere minutes it becomes rather still.
For two thirds of the price, I'd go with the Drappier Carte d'Or.

A good effort from Drappier. At estate price of 30 EUR, a perfect QPR for an “everyday” Champagne!
