  • Excitement grows as an 01 Prum is pulled from the cellar and placed in the fridge to chill. It does not disappoint, so full of energy and joy as it is, it’s like a honey drizzled bowl of limes with ginger zest and petrol highlights. Still shows youthful, stacked with body and brightness to balance the fruit and sweetness. Only its seamlessness reveals its 20+ years of maturation. Hard to find any fault here, true to the vintage but truer to the house style. Terrific.

Day 3: This is now really singing! The bouquet has come to life with richness and spice, redolent of honey, ginger, chamomile tea, and pomelo zest. The palate is more overtly sweet as well but with the requisite acidity to balance sugar. Delicious, long finish with a hint of bitterness like an apple skin.

Clearly, not ‘ready’ for peak drinking on the pop and pour. Will probably liquid joy for decades to come.

  • Purchased on release from K&L. Light golden straw color. Lovely Riesling nose with a whiff of chalk. Youthful and fresh. Perfect balance and a zippy, well integrated acidity. A faint hint of apricot and wild honey on the finish. No sense of sweetness; just a zesty, sexy wine. Spatlese just doesn't get better than this.

  • AP 13 02. Light-medium orange color. Nose is sharp and sweet with honey, pear, persimmon or kumquat, ginger and horseradish. Apple skins. The palate is near perfect - it’s got the spice and piquant of the nose and the flavors but with a wondeful balancing sweetness - it’s clearly dried out some over the years but has more sweetness than the nose would suggest. It’s at that point now where it’s just spherical and almost creamy with perfect acid that drives it but is seamless. Wonderful nutty dry extract hints like you get more of in a mature Riesling that has dried out significantly. Peach, cinnamon, persimmon, honey, walnuts, spices, apples, horseradish. A nice deep honey register as well. Finish is long and spicy and deep. Fucking awesome. Nose: 5/6, Palate: 6/6, Finish: 5-5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi: 2/2 = 18-18.5/20.

  • This was on point. Much better than an '01 Bernkasteler Badstube spät I tried recently. This has rested unmoved in my cellar since its purchase at release, but did show some signs of seepage from overfill. The cork was saturated but the color was a pretty golden hue and showed no signs of premox. Laser like precision here, with excellent balance of sweetness and acidity, rich lemon and peach notes, and a long finish. Great stuff and drinking perfectly now.

  • A Lost Weekend In NH; 6/16/2022-6/20/2022 (Lake Wentworth): Suffered a bit next to the Donnhoff. Dense color. Super citrus, wiry. Feels primary. Entering maturity, but still youthful energy here. Not as complete and balanced on the palate as the Donnhoff. More qiry. Graacher sometimes shows that citrus punch a bit more. A little petrol in the background after airing out.
