90 minute decant. Nose of red currant, tobacco leaf, sun-baked clay earth, and tarragon. Palate of dry red fruits, red plum, chocolate notes, currant, and pipe tobacco. Gentle tannins, silt, pencil lead, lead pipe, baked plum, hint of orange peel and just a brush of acidity. Will hold for a number of years but seems done developing.

No opportunity to decant sitting outdoors at a restaurant where there one decanter was busy. Perfect cork, Initially austere but opened after 30+ minutes or so. Tannins are mostly resolved. Very enjoyable to drink now.

Decanted for 2+ hours. Still young. This bottle initially seemed a bit more closed than the last bottle. With decanting, the wine became more approachable and was nice to drink. 93. pts at the moment.

Third bottle from the case and first one I liked. Maybe bottle variation, maybe it just needed the time. Fruity and earthy, medium-bodied. Needs 30 min decant.
A fascinating contrast against the Leoville-Barton 2005. It was quite full plump and generous, tasting of dark fruits flavoured with game. Quite rich, a touch bretty, softer and more extracted. Not quite the classic style I have come to admire, but still a very fine wine. CHP 91pts
