Medium-light golden yellow in color. Full, forward and attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of apples, pineapple & citric notes of lemons/limes, with overtones of floral notes of honeysuckle & mineral notes, slate, honey with a slight hint of petrol in the background. Medium bodied, with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of honeyed dried apricots, sweet yellow peaches, grapefruit & green apples with some minerals & slate notes. Long lingering & crisp finish. Drinking quite well at 22 years of age and seems to have the backbone to develop further with a few more years of further aging. Fill well into neck; cork was clean & intact. Not as sweet as most Auslese; more on the leaner & firmer side. A remarkable wine.

La Briccolina - inaugral vertical dinner (Bottles Chelsea): Recollection of this wine isn't particularly clear given prior consumption, but despite its age and its prominent lime and pineapple notes it was sweet enough to cope with some cake with ice cream.

Still light yellow. Apple, lime, and some vanilla custard. Light weight, fresh, off dry, great acidity, slate filled finish. Showing little in the way of secondary aromatics or flavors. Amazing how little it has changed over the past 2 years since I last noted it. Old fashioned, lean Mosel Auslese.

Pre-Christmas lunch (Michael Wignall at The Latymer, Pennyhill Park): Beautiful green-gold colour and a stunning nose of white fruit, flowers, honey and a hint of petrol. The palate is equally special with an ethereal quality to the way it delivers its layers of fruits and a balancing acidity that caps off a stunning auslese. The years have also tempered its sweetness such that it acted as a brilliant wine with food.

Hazlenuts on the nose, decent concentration, intense acidity, lemons on the palate - complex, fresh and well balanced. Only 7.5% ABV.
