  • Notes are limited as the bottle was taken to dinner at Boon, here in Guerneville, CA. Felt appropriate to drink something from Piemonte as winter has arrived early -- and we are finally getting some needed rain after two years of almost no moisture. In addition, I am trying to drink up some of my remaining single bottles, just to simplify my cellar....

Good color with that classic red tawniness. Nose and palate of licorice and strawberry elements along with some floral high notes, the latter of which, I did not note earlier this year. Finish is of orange citrus rind, watermelon, and red apple.

Overall, I liked this bottle tonight more than the same wine opened eight months ago. Hard to gauge any definitive evolution in eight moths time, but I think the wine has come tougher nicely since then and is more enjoyable today. It's longevity is hard to figure out, but it should drink well for the next seven years.

(Served with the restaurant's famous Brussels sprouts along with grilled duck on a bed of farro with delicata squash and cherry habanero compote).

  • Opened about 30min before serving; consumed over a three hour period. A wine that seems to be mostly about aromatics at this point. Initially, the nose was bing cherry, alpine herbs, tar, wet river rocks…but that shifted after about an hour when fresh raspberries and chocolate covered citrus candies entered the mix. And then, after about 90 minutes of air, then…came the roses accompanied by watermelon Jolly Rancher™️. Really quite captivating!

On the palate, things were a bit more subdued: tart dark cherries, blackberries, tar and minerals were the most obvious…but I have found many 2010 Barolo’s remain pretty reticent, locked behind a giant wall of tannins and really, this is no exception. Lovely acidity. This finish is quite long and, notably, quite saline. While this is enjoyable now, I believe the best is yet to come. Drink now, with some patience, through 2035+?

  • Purchased this wine six years ago at Specs, in Houston; wine rested in cold San Francisco cellar ever since.

Good color. Nose and palate of licorice and some strawberry elements. A bit of watermelon rind at the finish - an element that I often notice in wine. A stronger profile - which is to be expected - in comparison to the 2010 Giovanni Rosso Barolo Serralunga d'Alba tasted on 12/31/20, but not rated; however, it's an eleven year-old Barolo, and should be a bit more interesting for the price. Decant for one hour.

Wanted more than what was delivered.

  • Hint av trøfler, lett florale toner og fin, avdempet eik. God struktur og medium lengde, vil trolig åpne seg noe frem i tid.

  • Italian Wine Class, and a Musar! (SF Wine Center): Commune: Serralunga d'Alba (Serralunga Valley, more austere)
    Vineyard: Cerretta

Dried strawberries, dried roses, dried orange peel, earthy and floral.
Lighter wine, alcohol high, acid elevated, HERE are the chewy tannins I love.

    Score: Around 9.
