  • Twenty years on… brick on edges, black fruits still there, tannins integrated , bouquet on nose is sweet ripe fruit , with a nice rare tenderloin, who could ask for more?

  • “ The fruit for this wine is handpicked from the Filsell Vineyard, where the vines here are almost 100 years old, and small portions of fruit are also selected from even older premium vines in the Barossa. The age of these vines means Meshach is made from fruit with tremendous power and intensity, especially when allowed to ripen to the desired Baumé of 14°. The 2001 growing season provided optimum conditions for fruit with good concentrated flavour and character.”

well 21 years on and this wine delivers , fully mature now Colour is deep garnet red slight bricking on the rim Cork closure wet for 1-2mm 15/15
nose intense , great mix of primary fruits and aged elements blackberry touch of red fruits raspberry , chocolate liquorice new leather , certainly responds to aeration 27/30
palate wow rich luscious ripe fruit plum black berry , dark chocolate liquorice , seamless across the palate soft acid balanced tannins super long finish 42/44
overall This wine has purchased recently as a cellar release from Grant Burge which probably explains the excellent condition , stored correctly for 20 years 11/11

  • This is an excellent plum bomb that needed 30min to rebalance itself in the decanter.

  • Incredible wine, dense tannic structure that harmoniously embraces the fruit notes. Do not give too much oxygen, drink soon.

  • 13.5% abv. Evident bricking, clear crimson color, some oxidation. This bottle wasn’t exactly vibrant, but it still has life and shows mature Shiraz bones. Raisins, macerated red berries, cola, green leaf, spice cake. Tannins fully integrated, smooth, fairly long finish, touch of late heat and acid. I haven’t had many aged Shiraz - this was interesting enough to make me want to try more.

(GRANT BURGE MESHACH SHIRAZ) #3; COLOR-really dark; NOSE-roasted marshmallow, milk, oak; TASTE-Old World must leave the planet, New World fans will love, explosion of skittles, massive fruit punch & fruit salad (raspberry, cherry & subtle watermelon), licorice, viscous, very soft tannins, luscious, one-dimensional, but that dimension is delicious, little mushroom on the finish; WS-94; GV-92
