  • This was drinking fabulously. Pretty earthy nose with sour cherry, soil, leaves. Similar tart cherry palate with earthy undertones, great acidity and still some tannic grip on the finish. Nice balance and complexity. Probably still good for a number of years, but certainly good to drink now. Glad to have a second bottle.

  • I agree with Vinnut’s recent note.

  • Drinking beautifully now opened an hour before, no decant, tannins are tame and rich complexity of cherry/berry fruit and a nice finish.

  • Subsequent notes on this wine from 5 years ago. Dark garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, boysenberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, spices, cocoa, herbs, tobacco, leather, anise, minerals, tar, smoky & a hint of cedar. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe red fruit flavors of red cherries, cranberries & plums with spices, herbs, minerals & a slight hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present & at 17 years of age is close to or at its peak of development although it should hold here for a few more years. However, any further development from additional aging would be incremental. Fill was in neck right below the capsule; cork was clean & intact.

  • 10 weeks ago I had a 2007 vintage and it's so perfect - 97 pts. Let's see if this one is also so good. It should be because 2006 was rated 97 points vs 96 according to the WA Vintage Guide! Unfortunately it's very good, but not so very , very good. Bold, muscular, heavy weight, but too one dimensional, too simple. First of all - too much wood and not enough sweet notes. Let's start from the beginning. Lovely, strong, unique smell! Tobacco, leather, smoke ( what a powerful trio!) Also red cherry, earth, minerals and some nice sweet aromas ( what could be?). Taste? Red cherry, raspberry, wood (booo), black chocolate ( here we go).
Long finish with red cherry, cranberry, baking spice. Acidity and tannins are perfect.
Anyway I expected this wine to be in the same league as 2007.
Don't get me wrong. It's still delicious wine, but it had bad luck sitting next to much better one.
