Saturday, June 9, 2012 - I've had a couple bottles now and have read all the notes here, and taken all together I'll say that this is really going to be an epic Gonon. On first opening there's everything you'd ever want from a Saint-Joseph: smoke, meat, lifted floral notes, great grip and persistence, just magnificent. With air, though, the wine clams up significantly, showing mostly gritty/chalky tannins that struggle for contention with the wine's deep core of red-black fruit. This is about to go into its shell for a few years, but the wait is absolutely going to be worth it.
