This bottle pushed the horizontal boundaries of the type of complexity that spatlese can deliver: while the limits did exist, and this could never be an old auslese, it was incredible-- the delineation of so many tones of apricot, burnt sugar, deep orange flowers, that stony spatlese minerality, especially in the Berncastel Doctor richness, and just a pleasure with food. These kabinetten, spatlesen and auslesen from their 1999 vintage GKs are very special and perhaps overlooked by vintage or otherwise.
