Friday, January 3, 2020 - incredibly approachable barbaresco. Dark ruby in color with a nose of dried rose petals and cherries. on the palate the wine gives cherry liquor, strawberry and raspberry fruit, along with a touch of spice and minerality. there is great overall balance and finesse with enough acidity and tannins to see this through for the next 10 years or so. the purity of fruit here is striking! almost hard to believe that this is a normale offering. it's a classic barbaresco in every sense but for the subdued tannins. I have to wonder what was done in the winery to suppress and smooth out the tannins. they are not fine grained but rather rounded. I can't remember a barbaresco/barolo that i drank so young that was so approachable. it almost reminded me of a 2016 oregon pinot noir (pommard clone) but for the rose on the nose. aging in large neutral botti allows the fruit to be the star here and the varietal characteristics certainly shine through. incredibly enjoyable today and sure to put a smile on the face of anyone who loves nebbiolo. Bodes well for the rest of the 2016's!
