2021 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Sunday, May 5, 2024 - I’m cautiously optimistic that this might be my first good bottle from Foillard. While this will definitely require some air, the off flavors that haunted last nights bottle of Fleurie are not there in this wine. Rustic but crunchy fruit.

After a few hours of air, this is actually quite nice. Bright red fruits and enough structure to last a while. Reminds me a lot of Coudert’s cuvée Tardive, except this is twice as expensive and 80%+ more likely to have an undrinkable fault.

EDIT: I will admit when I am wrong. This wine was stunning on day 2, perhaps the best BoJo I’ve had in 20 years. Beautiful fruits and exotic spices. Its best days are still ahead, but I’m not buying future vintages. It is hard to buy a wine when you know that there is a good chance that some, and possibly all of them will be tainted. But when this is good, it is very, very good.
