Thursday, November 30, 2023 - Very very nice, but also very young and youthful! Compared to recently opened 2013s, 2014s and 2017s this needs loads more time to unfurl and confirms my inclination to sit on this vintage. Compares easily to recent 2019 barolos I’ve tried in terms of youthfulness but shows a little introspection compared to how the 16s showed 3 or 4 years ago, but without any of the development that can be seen in a well-aired 2017.
Drink now if you want- it has a lovely nose, fantastic fine-boned structure with a punch in the palate, firm young tannins and a long finish. And of course this isn’t a wine that breaks the bank compared to its quality. But I have a feeling this will be one of the longest lived vintages of this bottling and will be worth waiting for.
