2022 Domaine Bernard Baudry Grolleau Franc de Pied

Vin de France more

A lovely and fresh drop. Wonderfully aromatic and clean cold fruit on the palate. It’s not complex like their Cab Francs but it’s thirst quenching and perfect with simple food. Drink up.

I paid 19.99 for this and it’s worth double that easy. It has been a few years since I’ve had one of these wines but man is it good. Dark fruit but with enough vertical structure to thrive at the table such as Pork Hash.

I really enjoy these wines and this vintage is no different. A beautiful almost Macon like green color with fresh Sauvignon Blanc zest and Semillon weight. Drink up. How could you not?

I don’t know. It was a little lean and a little quick. It was a decent drop and it was clean but nothing to make we want to buy more. I would like to try a fresh vintage.

Gamay more

2/23/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

Gosh, I’ve been drinking these wines for over twenty years and I still find them endlessly fascinating and enjoyable. I suppose it’s the combination of old gamay vines raised as Burgundy that just blows my mind. Aromatically beautiful, flavorful, delightful and always thought provoking. Drink or hold, or buy two cases every year and do both.

2020 Domaine Tempier Bandol Lulu & Lucien

Mourvèdre Blend, Mourvèdre more

3/9/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

Pulled from my father’s cellar. In typical Tempier fashion, once the Mourvèdre saddle leather smells calmed down and the wine spread out some it became really lovely and complex. A really fun wine to drink. If you have it, I would say hold onto it for a year or two longer or decant if you need to drink it now.

3/6/2024 - Devlon Moore wrote: NR

Interesting Chateauneuf, dense and layered. However I didn’t really find to be that interesting or intreguing, especially aromatically. I paid close to $100.00 and I would not pay that again. At half that price I might think about trying it again but there is so much else out there.

3/13/2024 - Devlon Moore Does not like this wine: NR

Dead. Perfect cork plus perfect storage. And I’ve had alive bottles from this vintage and from this cellar which is my father’s cellar. Yet, alas, this bottle was dead. The life of a wine is a curious thing. Not unlike the life of a person.

1996 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

3/6/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

Generously shared with me by an old friend. What a wine! Upon opening it was very vertical, very tight lines. As it opened and fleshed out came the beautiful Bordeaux aromatics and wine just expanded horizontally for the next 2.5 hours. Just as complex and compelling as wine can get. Drink it or hold it. This bottle showed zero signs of slowing down.

Rosé

2022 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé

Mourvèdre Blend, Mourvèdre more

2/8/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

Every time I drink Tempier Rose I wonder if I can ask for much more from a wine. Sure, it will never be as complex and long lasting as great Burgundy, Bordeaux or Rhône but it’s easily as pleasurable, if not more. Which brings me to the pricing of this wine. If you look at Rose as something to be quaffed during the summer months, nothing to think about or pair to, then, undoubtedly, the price tag will irk you. However, if you buy Rose as a wine that can be stored/aged and consumed all year then the price is fair, more than fair. How much better is Tempier Rose than mid-tier Macon or California Chardonnay? Tempier Rose is more versatile at the table, more aromatically complex and satisfying to drink.

2022 Clos Ste. Magdeleine Vin de Pays des Bouches-du-Rhône Rosé Marie De Magdala

Rosé Blend more

3/12/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

Like everything from this estate, a wonderfully complex and enjoyable wine. The nose is all citrus fruit and pith and the palate is clean and refreshing and leaves you salivating. Usually I shy away from wines raised in amphora as it seems to create textural monotony but this wine manages to be rounded and have wonderful grip and cut all at the same time. Drink it now or hold it. It will live for sometime. I paid $38.04 for it and its worth every penny.

2016 Meyer-Fonné Gewurztraminer Dorfburg Vieilles Vignes

Alsace Gewürztraminer more

3/12/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

What a wine! It had been open for four days when I tasted it and it was showing perfect balance between vertical structure and finish and horizontal fruit and flowers. I could smell it for hours and it was wildly versatile at the table matching to radish toast with salt and butter to carnitas. Drink or hold if you have it. You won’t be disappointed either way.

2018 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Chambolle-Musigny

Pinot Noir more

3/12/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

The first wine I’ve had from this estate and I was really impressed with it. It has recognizable Chambolle flowers and firm structure but not to where it’s closed in on itself. In the glass there is still enough horizontal stuff happening to make the wine very enjoyable and interesting at this point in its life. Drink or hold if you have it.

2022 Le Prieuré de Saint-Ceols Menetou-Salon

Sauvignon Blanc more

3/12/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

Impressive Menetou. Weighty, which Loire Sauvignon Blanc isn’t now days, though weighty in a good way meaning not from the fruit but from the structure. Continuing in that vein the wine is less fruit driven and crunchier towards the herbs and acid aspect of S Blanc. If you have it in your cellar it drinks well and interesting now but some time is not going to hurt it.

2017 Domaine des Roches Neuves Saumur-Champigny

Cabernet Franc more

3/12/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

I go back and forth with these wines. From a technical aspect I admire them and how well they are raised. They are suave and I don’t mean that as pejorative. Aromatically, however, I wish the nose was more delightful and playful if that makes sense. If you have this wine in the cellar I would say hold it for a little bit longer with the hope that it starts to dance a little bit like Cab Franc can.

2019 Luigi Oddero Barbaresco Rombone

Nebbiolo more

2/3/2024 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

For being so young this bottle is in a really good place. It’s really pretty clean translucent reddish color and the nose is pure, focused and tight. The palate is typical of young Nebbiolo with a great focus of layered flavors that I find consistently compelling. I paid 49.99 before shipping and taxes. It’s worth that for sure. Drink or Hold.

This used to be one of my go to wines for a drop that’s solid to very good at a reasonable price, however this vintage is pretty extracted almost to the point of grape syrup. There is a little vertical structure behind the wine but just not enough for my taste. Also, given the current price drift, across the industry as a whole, the wine is no longer a bargain.

A cracking good bottle of Nebbiolo with all the components, fruit, structure and aromatics working together. This is my first experience with this producer and I will certainly have more. Hold or drink. Actually buy three bottles, drink one now, drink the second 3 years from now and the third another 3. With shipping I paid $64.49. It is worth that and more.

Fresh with deep rounded fruit and a tiny touch of volatility. High class wine for sure with a long finish. I just wish it lacked the prickly acidity. I would say if you have it in your cellar hold onto it. I paid $107.00 with shipping. I don’t think I would buy it again at that price but if you can find it for around $80-85, go for it.

2018 Monchiero Barolo Comune di Castiglione Falletto

Nebbiolo more

11/2/2023 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

The fruit for this wine apparently comes from the Pernanno vineyard which made it really interesting to me as I not tasted anything that’s 100% Pernanno. It’s good Barolo with some weighty ripe fruit that flattened (in a good way) after a few hours. Including shipping and taxes I paid $52.62. Same story I would not buy it at that price again but if I found it in my local market and didn’t have to pay shipping I would likely grab some. I’m glad a got to try it though.

11/2/2023 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

A nice Northern Nebbiolo. The first time I’ve had it and I was impressed with it. It has that lean tight mountain Nebbiolo structure with some back end weight from the Vespolina and the Croatina. With shipping (from the East coast) and sales tax I paid $77.62. I would not pay that price again as I don’t think its worth that amount, but I would buy it again if I could find it locally.

It’s funny with these wines as I like them better after they are open a day or two as they seem to spread out and the citrus fruits fatten a bit. Good stuff as always though. Drink or hold.

6/19/2023 - Devlon Moore Likes this wine: NR

Absolute mind bender of a wine. The best Fiano I’ve had and if money was never an issue I would buy a case a year. Yes it isn’t a cheap wine but it’s worth every penny just for the oily nuance that never once feels fat as Fiano occasionally can. Cellar it or drink it. It will never disappoint.
