Pepper, hibiscus in smell. A little hot alcohol. Taste is fairly buttery. Some tannins. Decent acidity creates a sour plum flavor in combination with the dark fruit notes, and it lingers in the aftertaste. Incense in the middle. OK wine but not a great value. Perhaps too young.

NV Gonzalez-Byass Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Tio Pepe Fino 'En Rama' 2014

Biscuit is more in the forefront here, but I noticed the expected sea salt, citrus, green olive, and honey flavors of an en rama fino. Richer palate than filtered fino, but still fairly light and very drinkable. Well rounded and balanced, pungency is present but balanced. Just had the Equipo I Think and these two share similar profiles, with this one being more restrained.

10/17/2014 3:11:00 PM - Thank you for the suggestion, Harley! I would love to age a couple bottles and see how it ages. I think it's a matter of balance - too much oxidation can make it harsh or stale, but just enough can make it great.

Etherial perfume with kaleidoscopic complexity. Darker, and riper red berries than 1987, macerated cherry, milk chocolate, a touch of biscuit. Softer acids and a silky body.

Fruity and with a balance seldom seen in a Vin Jaune, it lingers for minutes and is very vibrant. Still an infant, it will keep for 50 years.

Old cellar, antique furniture, indian spice, green apples. High acidity. Touch of bitterness in finish. Needs some aging to soften acids, but already a pleasure to drink. Medium concentration for Jaune.

Very fascinating. Nutty, woody aroma, complemented with honey and apricot. The mix of mild fruit, nut and is reminiscent of a quality Belgian geuze. Mild, almondy palate, with pear and apricot notes that linger in the mildly tart finish. Tons of complexity and multiple layers to appreciate and savor. Absolutely excellent.

7/9/2013 3:22:00 PM - Can you elaborate on how it reminds you of a Gueuze? I'm a huge fan of both lambics and this wine. However, I don't usually find nutty notes in gueuze, other than maybe almond in kriek.

K&L Hollywood Burgundy Tasting (K&L Wines, Hollywood): Pale hay. Slight toast, baking spice, lemon. Noticeable tannins. Med body. Very drinkable now.

11/26/2012 7:12:00 PM - Noticeable does not (necessarily) mean out of balance. I think that a small amount of tannins in a white wine can help create a pleasant texture. Think Lopez de Heredia whites. Am I to assume that you disagree with the statement that it has some tannins?
