4/4/2011 - wineretriever wrote: 91 pointsLoads of low fruit, with a brightness that had us confused as to origin. Bright cherry, with a long finish. Wouldn't be afraid to pop this now, but I suspect it will continue to get better as the only major issue we had with it was that it tasted a bit hot, even though it is only 14.2%. Heat evaporated after about 30 minutes in the glass. Will definitely buy again. |

2/5/2011 - wineretriever wrote: 87 pointsAmazing QPR. Ruby color that gets lighter, almost rose on the rim. Still relatively tannic, and is almost singular on the nose, mainly blackberry, with a lingering floral element. I wouldn't have guessed Cab Franc. The tannins are smoother in the mouth, with blueberry and cedar most prevalent. This is not as heavy a wine as the nose may suggest, with a medium length finish. Very satisfied, especially for the money. will buy again. |

6/1/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 87 pointsI agree that this has gotten a bit heavier with the passage of time. The nose is a bit sweeter than it was in the past, though there is still plenty of lemon and pear on the palate. The minerality that balanced the wine so nicely is almost gone. |

5/30/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 89 pointsI dare you to find a better Gewurz for the price. Great minerality on the nose, and some weight too. Lemon curd and a little fattiness in the mouth. I mostly think of spicy foods with Gewurz, but this is worthy of the sea bass at local or Tei Tei in Dallas. Couldn't enjoy it more. |

4/28/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 91 pointsAt first, nose a bit disjointed - earthy segments, and then bright fruit. Open for about 1 hour, and was more in sync. Bright fruit flavors, with a light mouth feel. Delicious by itself, and then great with pork, hen-of-the-woods mushrooms and maytag chips. Finished it by itself after about 4 hours. Strawberry jam by the end. Have another and will wait a bit longer for it, but very good wine. |

3/8/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 88 pointsGreat QPR. Citrus nose. Lemon curd and lime zest on the palate, with a mild finish. Been drinking a lot of this recently, as no other Chard of this price delivers as much value and consistency. Will continue to buy. |

3/4/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 88 pointsCocoa and dark fruit on the nose, which becomes dark plum with a bit of tobacco on the mouth, with a mid-length finish of tart tannins.. Gotta love the Washington Merlot for its constant reminder of why I love the grape. Delicious in flavor and QPR. $13.99 plus 10% off at a grocery store? Tough to beat. |

2/21/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 89 pointsFunky. Dead ringer for a rhone. Blinded with Sarah - shocked it was Aussie. I said "syrah?" she said "shiraz...do you think it's bad?" The cork was soaked, but no, not bad. Tough to get by the brett on the nose, but not any on the mouth. Little blackberry and licorice and vanilla custard. |

2/21/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 87 pointsShocked it was still altogether. Oak and blackberry on the nose. The oak is integrated with plum on the palate, with chocolate cake finish. Day 2 - smells of sweet plum not great, but identifiable as the same wine. |

2/15/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 87 pointsTasted blind. Cooper trying to "test us". Herbal, violets, rhubarb. Guessed zweigelt. Somewhat blunt on the finish, similar to a gamay. Not a lot of fruit, but would do well with food - good QPR. would buy more. |

2/5/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 89 pointsPineapple, lavender, and a touch of clove on the nose. Well-balanced mouthfeel with good acidity. American oak on the mid-palate, with hints of butterscotch, banana, mango and apple. Drank while prepared a vietnamese green papaya salad for S. |

2/3/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 87 pointsVery tight upon opening. Very dry, with a sweet smell we associated with orange marmalade and cloves. As it opened, smelled more of low fruit and cedar. Consistent on the palate with strong currant, coffee, earth and just a bit of vanilla. Those flavors continue on the mid-palate, with an abbreviated finish because of strong tannins. I said "this wine could last forever", but I think probably 5 years, if you can wait that long for a $20 bottle. I'd buy more. |

1/31/2010 - wineretriever wrote: NRNot the best of these bottles I've had. Still Burgundian on the nose, with strawberries, light earthiness, with a touch of asian spice I haven't smelled in previous bottles. Still good acidity and easy to drink, more cherry than strawberry. I have enjoyed this wine so much in the past, that I will assume I was having a bad day, not the wine, and won't give a score. I will open another in a few months. |

1/30/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 90 pointsTight. Asian spice, anise, and currant nose. Feels like a bold RRV Pinot at first, with orevailing cherry cola. Then underlying tobacco and tar. Not fully together yet, will save the rest for at least 2 years. |

1/30/2009 - wineretriever wrote: 91 pointsTasted along with the '96. Still some left in here. Cedar more than oak on the nose, along with currant and blackberry. Little spice left, vanilla and a brightness (almost sweetness) in the blackberry that wasn't there in the past. Much more together than the '96. Not getting any better, drink within the next year. |

1/29/2010 - wineretriever wrote: 90 pointsBlind tasted. Oak and low fruit on the nose -relatively closed and singulalry cabernet. Blackberry jam, vanilla, and black cherries, with a slighly abbreviated finish due to oaky tannins. I guessed youngish-Napa fruit (2005 Stewart), and scored before it was revealed as a $12 wine. Enjoyed more after. Will buy more asap. |

11/28/2009 - wineretriever wrote: 91 pointsBright cherry dominated the nose out of the bottle. Very little saturation of the cork. Poured through Vinturi throughout the night. French style, but for the predominance of fruit on the mouth. Would drink young to keep the backbone. Hanging Christmas ornaments with S, so likely added a few points. Selected over Loring - Gary's (2006), Alpha Omega Syrah (2006), and Sineann Block One (2005). |
