4/9/2010 - cannym wrote: 85 pointsBig fruity wine. Lots of blackberry and chocolate notes. Decent acidity. A very big wine, short on subtlety, well made. Fair length. Can see why this could win competitions but not really my favourite style. |

10/26/2018 - cannym Likes this wine: 88 pointsDeep purple ruby. Plenty of black and blue berry fruits. Some smokiness, some spice. But quite refined. Though really it's the clean fresh fruit you notice most. Nice wine but no way 96 pointer. |

3/10/2010 - cannym wrote: 88 pointsMid gold. Slightly cloudy. Rich butterey nose, touch of acacia. Big rich wine. Some citrus, lots of bitter almond, some vanilla, decent balancing acidity. Acacia/honeysuckle there too. Good length. Clean finish. Could be a coolish climate Californian chardonnay. Oak not too dominant. Maybe currently priced too high (25 UK) but definite potential if you like this sort of wine. |

12/2/2009 - cannym wrote: 86 pointsBig wine, dark ruby, fading at edges. Blackberry nose, dust and meat. On the palate more of the same. Tannins now perhaps a bit prominent, fruit retreating. Not very long. Ok but wonder if it would have been better earlier. |

12/16/2009 - cannym wrote: 87 pointsDark, almost black. Tar, blackberries and spices. Huge wine, maybe just too young. Suffered badly by being paired witha lovely 2005 C-d-R Villages, Rastau which was much more elegant and better balanced (and on its own is quite a big wine). |

9/25/2009 - cannym wrote: 88 pointsLemon & acacia nose, bright, plenty of intensity, lemon, honey plus tropical fruits. Touch of minerality. Medium length. A bit more Californian-like than expected. Decent to drink but maybe not to rush back for more. |

1/26/2011 - cannym wrote: 90 pointsLovely dark ruby, touches of purple. But not opaque at all. Fresh fruits, hint of strawberry and plenty of blackberry. Lovely balance to this wine. Plenty of dark berries but also fine chocolate and something spicy. Not at all sweet or too rich. Fine acidity and freshness. Good length. A very enjoyable style of malbec blend. Possibly the winery has renamed this wine or changed their range. Great with a good steak. |

10/30/2010 - cannym wrote: 90 pointsAged mahogany. Lovely nose of caramel, figs and treacle. Follows through to mouth with great balancing acidity and excellent length. Some nice citrus/lime notes also. Very much a tawny/madeira sibling. Maybe the botrytis is submerged a bit. Lovely to drink and contemplate. Seems to last well when opened too. |

9/15/2017 - cannym Likes this wine: 88 pointsMid gold. Lots of fresh tropical fruit, mango, papaya. etc. Decent acidity. Some light orange marmalade too. Medium sweetness, medium length. Nothing outstanding but very decent for the modest cost. |

9/14/2013 - cannym Likes this wine: 89 pointsDark gold. Nose of burnt sugar and ripe apricots. Tons of caramelly sugar, apricot, caramelised pineapple. Fair acidity but not quite balancing the richness. Clear botrytis flavours. Decent length bit not everlasting. Pleasant but just a bit crude I'm afraid. |

7/23/2010 - cannym wrote: 95 pointsGreat Oz shiraz. First time I've got the classic "sweaty saddles" on the nose. Deep ruby, bright and young looking. Tons of blackberries, dark meats, violets, cinnamon and warm spices. Long. But still fresh acidity and lovely balance for a big wine. Had with a big bit of Scottish sirloin and a great marriage it was. Most of our wine group's WOTN too. Big fruity wine but with so much more to make it really quite special. And still felt quite young. |

11/24/2023 - cannym Likes this wine: 89 pointsRuby, fading. Still plenty of fruit though red as much as black. Full maturity or more. Tannins totally smoothed out. decent acidity. Touch of elegance rather than bruiser. Lots of smoky, meaty flavours too. Probably better a few years ago but still completely drinkable. |

1/28/2016 - cannym Likes this wine: 91 pointsPale yellow; initially quite closed on the nose. Still wonderfully fresh and energetic on the palate, creamy lemon, tightly wound but juicy and not austere, beautifully integrated acidity; good length. Incredibly fresh. |

8/19/2011 - cannym wrote: 85 pointsStill dark ruby but significant browning to edge. Nose of blackberries and chocolate. This is definitely seeing the fruit fading. Bit of meat and leather in addition to the fruit. There was no sign of the fruit bomb effect. Not really very complex or deep either as compensation. There is a clear alcohol burn though, not surprising at 16%. Overall fairly disappointing at this stage. I suspect I've actually enjoyed it more at the fruit bomb stage. It doesn't really seem to have the stuffing to really age. |

8/24/2013 - cannym Likes this wine: 91 pointsGreat wine. Light to mid gold, green hints. Straw, beeswax and citrus, mostly grapefruit. Lovely fresh entry, nice slightly honeyed depths. Great acidity and clean long finish. Excellent balance too. Must drink more such wines and at 12% easy to live with too. No hint of being in anyway old, many more years to come. |
