The Gustav Adolf Schmitt winery was founded in 1618 in the famous town of Nierstein on the Rhine River.

The winery has been exporting wines for nearly 200 years, and was among those who pioneered overseas markets such as Japan and Canada.

In addition to wines produced from holdings in the best vineyards around Nierstein, Gustav Adolf Schmitt has always offered a wide range of well known Rhine wines.

In the 1970s, the winery decided to focus solely on the demands of foreign markets, allowing it to become one of the leading German wine brands in Japan and Canada.

In 2004, Gustav Adolf Schmitt became a daughter company of Bernkastel-Kues based Moselland eG.

With access to over 100 hectares of vines in Nierstein, Moselland eG produces wines of exceptional quality for Gustav Adolf Schmitt at all price points. Modern wineries and skilled winemakers in Nierstein and Bernkastel-Kues consistently produce clean, crisp, fruit driven wines.

Vieux Château Certan, or simply “VCC” as many people call it. The pink capsule is really so catchy. That was also the reason for me to get my first bottle of VCC. VCC is one of the oldest estates in Pomerol - even earlier than Petrus. In the 15th century, the Portuguese settled near the old VCC property. They called the place "Sertan" at that moment, which means desert. Most of the plants could hardly grow there, but it was perfect for grapes. Over time, "Sertan" gradually developed into the homophonic "Certan", which has been passed down as part of the name of the winery today.

There is also an interesting story about the pink capsule. In 1924, the Belgian Bordeaux wine merchant Georges Thienpont took over the château. He wanted to find out which of his clients were buying VCC. So he decided to add the pink capsule, so this pink capsule would stand out when he visited his clients’ cellars. He can easily know if without asking. In late 1980s, Alexandre Thienpont began managing Vieux Château Certan and he renovated the winemaking facilities twice - the second time in 2003. He also created a second wine ‘La Gravette de Certan.’ He is the one who began green harvesting, picking riper fruit, and reducing yields. These moves led to VCC to becoming an amazing château and Guillaume Thienpont is today following his father’s footsteps.

PARKHURST WINE CELLARS
845 E. California Street, Jacksonville, OR 97530, United States

Simply put, we love wine. Wine brings people together in a way that is always unique and special. Our love of all things vinous spans over 60 cumulative years. From long before the Parkhurst story began, a passion for world-class wines and fine food and sharing them with our family and friends existed and thrived. After some time, we saw how our collective passion and new life path was taking us towards creating something new and special. Something that reflected the past, present and future of our lives in a way that could only be likened to a classic vintage, captured in a bottle.

The vision began many years ago with an introduction to the craft of growing and creating world-class wines. Having discovered the wines of Oregon during the 1980's, the hope of one day producing wines of such class and caliber, seemed a distant vision. Now, here in the northern shadow of the Siskiyous, The Rogue Valley boasts an amazing diversity of geographical features that inspires industry professionals to discover what this young and vibrant viticultural region has to offer. It takes only a few visits here to see that this beautiful valley begs to be explored for making world-class wines and inspires many to chase that dream. And so, we committed to do just that with wines grown and hand-crafted exclusively from vineyards in the Rogue Valley.

: Domaine Olivier Leflaive
Revision 1: edited by 500174 on 8/21/2012 (view)
The brothers Patrick and Olivier Leflaive have decided to recover their vineyards from Domaine Leflaive in order to make and offer their
own wines independently. 2010 is their first release, and what perfect timing! The new Domaine emerges to
offer wines from some of Burgundy’s greatest, rarest terroirs in a vintage which is being recognised as one of
truly spectacular quality, with classic proportions.

Since winter 2009/2010, there has been an uninterrupted, natural continuation of Domaine Leflaive’s bio-
dynamic vineyard cultivation methods in these vineyards, and this will be maintained. Olivier Leflaive was, of
course, co-manager of Domaine Leflaive with his uncle Vincent for 8 years, and for 4 years with his cousin
Anne-Claude. Olivier and his brother have been continuously involved in the making of some of Burgundy’s
very greatest wines since 1981.

The 2010 wines have been made and tended by Franck Grux and his team at the Olivier Leflaive cellar in
Puligny-Montrachet, where they will be bottled over the coming months. Franck Grux is well known to many
of you as one of Burgundy’s most highly respected white wine-makers, his career having included a stint at the
family Domaine Roulot, before he moved to join Olivier Leflaive in Puligny in 1988.

The number of barrels produced by Olivier Leflaive Domaine of each appellation is very limited, so great care
has gone into planning the size of oak barrels in which fermentation and ageing should take place, the per-
centage of new oak appropriate for each Cuvée, etc. (see details, below). The wines will be labelled under the
Olivier Leflaive label, prominently showing the words ‘Récolte du Domaine.’

aMaurice Cellars is a Walla Walla Valley, Washington State based winery owned by the Schafer family. The winery is dedicated to Maurice Schafer, the father of Tom Schafer who is the general manager and visionary of aMaurice Cellars. The wine making philosophy at aMaurice is to “express the true personality of the grapes and to do justice to the fruit”. The winery is committed to sustainable agriculture and is a charter member of Vinea - an alliance of Walla Walla wineries and vineyards that adhere to strict guidelines of sustainable viticulture.

The 13 acre vineyard is located upland from Mill Creek, just east of Walla Walla on a south facing slope. With an elevation of 1,400 feet the location allows for long warm summers and cool nights. The vineyard was planted in May 2006 to Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. As of the 2006 vintage the winery is not producing any estate wines.

Anna Schafer, winemaker, partner
As one of the founders of àMaurice, Anna has dedicated her time to creating wines with a unique quality. Her talent is her palate and curiosity of winemaking. As a practically trained winemaker, she works both hemispheres to taste wine in the vineyard. She works harvest in Mendoza, Argentina for winemaker Paul Hobbs's Viña Cobos. Anna brings to the winery a world perspective having visited thirty-six countries. Her favorite wine experience was in the Szechwan province, enjoying her first Tibetan barley wine!

The Donaldson family have been immersed in the wine industry since the early 1970s and were pioneers of local grape growing and wine making. Associate Professor and Consultant Neurologist, Ivan Donaldson, first became interested in wine when his girlfriend at the time, Christine, gave him a book simply called - ‘Wine’.

Penned by English industry legend, Hugh Johnson, the book started Ivan on an exciting journey, that has never stopped. After travelling to explore the wine regions of Europe, Ivan returned home to plant one of the first vineyards of modern times in Canterbury… and to marry Christine, who has been an integral part of the Pegasus Bay story.

The first vineyard was a hobby with Ivan making wine in the garage at home on the weekends, in-between seeing patients at his private practice in the evening and after his shifts at the public hospital. He also started writing a wine column in the local paper (that he continued for over 20 years) and was a judge in numerous wine shows around the globe. In 2012 Ivan was awarded an Order of Merit for his contribution to Neurology.

By the mid 1980s Ivan and Chris had decided there was definitely a future for wine making in Canterbury. They went on to plant Pegasus Bay with the help of their four sons, who have all ended up working in key roles within the business. Ivan, now retired from medicine, continues to oversee viticulture while Chris’s ‘happy place’ is in the winery’s extensive grounds, now beautifully well-established thanks to her careful planting over the last 30 years.

Chris is also passionate about opera and the arts. She has embraced the local opera scene for many years, including singing in the chorus for a number of operatic productions. There has been many a concert held at the winery’s natural amphitheatre and a reserve range of wines have been dedicated to Chris’s love of opera.

Their eldest son, Matthew, is Winemaker and graduated with an oenology degree and a postgraduate diploma in viticulture from Roseworthy College, in Australia. He has worked numerous vintages in other parts of the world, with a particular focus on Burgundy, and in 2020 would have had his 28th vintage at Pegasus Bay.

Another son, Edward (a trained chef) is Marketing Manager and spends much of his time trotting the globe to promote the wines to around 20 countries where Pegasus Bay is distributed. His wife Belinda managers the hospitality side of the business focusing on premium events.

Michael was the last son to join the business after his return from overseas, finding a natural fit as Local Sales Manager, while the youngest son Paul, who has an MBA, is the winery’s General Manager.

Pegasus Bay is proud to be entirely family-owned..

A Unique Vineyard

Planted in 1985 the Pegasus Bay vineyard is largely un-grafted producing ultra-low yields of grapes per vine with loose bunches and small berries. Tucked up under the lee of the Teviotdale Range, the vineyard gets maximum protection from the Pacific’s easterly breezes, while heat summation during the day is promoted by the smooth stones and gravels left behind by an ancient river bed washed down from the Southern Alps.

The soil is free draining and of low fertility, resulting in naturally reduced vine vigour. This produces optimally ripened, high quality, flavourful grapes, which fully express the qualities of this unique setting.

An extensive team of experienced vineyard staff allow operations such as shoot thinning, crop thinning, bunch exposure and fruit selection to be carried out meticulously. Vine age also plays an important role.

In 1974, shortly after their Peace Corp assignment in Colombia, Tom Clark and Laurie Claudon came to the Napa Valley, new baby boy in tow. Immediately caught up in the infectious energy, they were ready to take their place among a small group of visionary grape growers and winemakers. Together, that group of pioneers laid the foundation for the unrivaled status of today’s Napa Valley.

Over the next four years as their family grew. Tom continued to refine his grape growing expertise and Laurie learned along with him. In 1979, Tom founded Clark Vineyard Management and began developing and managing vineyards under his own company.

Then in 1989 pressed by a friend, Tom and Laurie hiked a piece of property on the north east side of Howell Mountain. Though unproven, it was the proverbial love at first sight and ideal for a Cabernet vineyard. Because of Tom’s considerable reputation, the sellers desire to support the purchase and the couple’s willingness to bet on themselves, they leased and developed the property while eventually exercising their option to buy. Working together, the family joked about calling it Sweat Equity, but the vineyard they developed would become Clark-Claudon Vineyards.

Their business was founded in the old tradition of family winemaking where the art begins in the vineyard and ends with a beautiful bottle of wine. The name Clark-Claudon and the logo's meeting of the two feathers represent a joint commitment to the pursuit of their dream and to the preservation of the environment that supports it. Since then, Clark-Claudon Vineyards has received critical acclaim for their Estate Grown Cabernet, Eternity Reserve Estate Cabernet and their Wild Iris Sauvignon Blanc.

To this day, Clark-Claudon Vineyards is a family affair.

Laurie, the soul of Clark-Claudon, manages the business, public relations and marketing while staying in close contact with the vineyard and the winemaking.

Tom directs production and manages the vineyard with son Joshua who now owns Clark Vineyard Management with his wife Heather.

Daughter, Briana, a professional photographer, is the resident photographer and design guru; www.brianamariephotography.com.

Son-in-law Brian, often Tom's assistant, plays too many roles to list!

The third generation: Brandon, Trevor, Josephine, Paxton and Finley are growing up in this very special world.
