Nice acquisitions, Anne. Nice to see you here, and that (obviously) you're still drinking well!

I am when I drink wine, which sadly isn't as much as I used to due to some health issues.

12 La Gravette De Certan 2020 that showed up in McAllen a couple of weeks ago showed up in Monterrey today. A Catholic Priest that happens to be my neighbor that goes every month to McAllen to talk to Catholic Hispanics in McAllen went to my office and picked them up. Just to imagine the picture of a priest picking up wine at an office cracks me up

Surprise surprise surprise! Just opened the box for my 12 La Gravette 2020. There were 12 bottles of La Gravette inside, the invoice said 12 bottles for the 2020 Gravette, I was charged for 12 bottles of 2020 La Gravette, but inside I found 12 bottles of the 2019 of La Gravette. Ok, whats the big issue? you might think.....well.... it is a big issue since the wine is already in Mexico and I am not that interested in the 2019 vintage since the 20s are much more interesting as critics have said. I have no clue if as a Mexican I can travel and take 12 bottles back to the USA and possibly send them back. Have no idea how the alcohol tax works, but every time I travel to the USA by car I am asked if I am carrying any alcohol with me and there is a small office where it says Alcohol Tax just a few feet away from the CBP officers.

Wrote to the shop telling them what happened and telling them the ordeal that I am not an American and that the wines are not in the USA. I am still interested in buying the 2020s but now I also have 12 2019s that although good, it was not what I wanted.

I have no idea what kind of plan the store would lay out. What are your thoughts ? What is a win win situation here as far as you see it. I perfectly undertand that it is a very unique situation and errors occur, but the error is 100% from their side and well, if they want to continue doing business with me they have to throw something other than " return the wines to us and we will send the correct vintage ". For me a good solution would be to give me a good discount in the 20s and keep the 19s. This is a shop that has a very high rating for customer service and the BBB and I really expect a solution that would leave me happy so I continue doing business with them in the future. Lets see tomorrow or Friday what they say...

I think a win would be that they send the 2020, and you pay them what the 2019 actually cost them. Probably 75% of what you would pay for 2019 retail…

With an error like this I would suggest 50-60 % off retail for the 2019, which seems to be an inferior vintage.

Hopefully you do get the 2020 vintage; good luck.

A UK retailer ( the Vinorium) shipped me a case of 2005 Oz from the incorrect vineyard (one I’d previously ordered and had delivered). They recognized the error and shipped me the correct wine at no cost, and didn’t ask for a return)

This was a few years ago, when shipping was merely expensive instrad of the current extortionate rate

@skifree, that would be a win for Eduardo but most like a below-cost deal for the 2019, so a loss for the store. They made a mistake, granted, but why "punish" them (anyhow, Eduardo will want his 2020 and they might not have a trivial time sourcing it, if they sold their allocation out, which is entirely possible!)

If I owned the wine store, I’d let him keep the 2019 no charge and ship the 2020 at the price previously agreed. Not only does this make a good customer happy, but saves the hassle of figuring out a fair price, doing the bookkeeping, arranging for shipping, etc. Just right off a few hundred dollars and move on.

Ok! so the solution came in this form. Wine was $70 per bottle. They reduced the price for the 2019s to $50. Shipping refunded as well $30 or so. Was offered the 2020 at regular price but now I dont need 12 extra bottles and I ordered just 6 of the 2020s. From my side I am happy as I understand errors and it is not a moment to take an advatage but rather negotiate something fair. As an owner of store I think I would have done exactly the same thing.

Cheers!

A friend went to Texas today and picked up 2 boxes of wine shippments that are now in my cellar.

6 x Realm The Bard 2021 ( Delayed 3 weeks because of hot weather in TX )

6 x Armenian reds....different vintages and producers. I really have no idea what to expect but it seems is a mixture of pinot with sangiovese, also high in acid ( I think I am going to learn a lot but maybe they are not my style of wine )

I will definitely open a couple before my shipping window closes. If I like them I will place another order. Let me know how you like them. It seems from what Ive read they might be on the mid weight high acidity wines. And of course I know that I am better off with a $40 Bdx than with a $40 Armenian red, but sometimes you get surprised and that happened to me with the xynomavro grape.

So thinking about pulling the trigger on a wine order.

But I'm here in Kansas City. And it's cold.

Grassl 1855 wine glasses I bought on BD15. Man are these things beautiful. I was worried they might be too small but they are perfect. Dry January is over and my wife is going out tomorrow night so we’ll have to break these in on Friday. Can’t wait to try these out.

That's a perfect excuse to buy wine!

....then again, any excuse is a perfect reason, right? That's kinda why we're all here in this same boat.

Fingers Crossed wooden boxes.. love the bottles, but the long wide wooden box and the bottle shapes are quite an inconvenience (for storage purposes). I use a LeCache, I do not have a true cellar. Guess I'll have to drink some sooner than anticipated!

I completely agree on all points. The artwork on the OWC and the bottles is fantastic, though!

First two BD arrivals, Moshin and Boheme, Sonoma Pinot which is pretty much a blind spot for me. First pours are getting air as I write this while Barbilocks is preparing a salmon and rice dish. Our salmon comes from Chilkat River, AK via our son-in-law. Barb's going back up there next week for Nana duty, though there may not be any more available for us until the July 2024 run.

My first BD shipment arrived today, as well, and it wasn't even something I purchased! I won a drawing that scored me some Matthiasson:

2022 Matthiasson Rosé
2022 Matthiasson Chardonnay Linda Vista Vineyard
2020 Matthiasson Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Sweet vermouth

I'll bet the rosé would pair well with some of that Chilkat River salmon....

You two are too kind! Their boxes are a total fricking PIA!!! Got 6 bottles today and I'm guessing that box is at least $60 of my total cost. I'd be happier if they didn't send the bottles in those, esp with the extra cost of the artwork and just kept the savings as extra margin for themselves!

(Time to move this comment to the 'ol My Rant thread which hasn't been used in 4+ years! Makes me angry no one's posted in that thread since late 2019! )
