Fotki is free and easy -- especially if you just want to upload a few pics. If you make the album private then nobody can link to your other pics.

On the posting screen click the image button. Then place the address of the picture itself in between the two texts of bracketed "image".

NoCapacity has the patience of a saint and is trying to walk me through this.
The previous link shows a pre-photo of the empty room, and then the empty racking ... here is the overflowing finished product.

Really nice cellar. How many bottles does it hold?

Tacman,
Impressive collection and cellar.  Maybe I should have gone into interventional cardiology instead of general surgery.  What are you using to keep track of your bottles.  Label printing, barcode scanner, computer in the cellar, etc?

Racked for about 3500 or so ... bursting at the seams a little.
It's a good thing the weather is cooling down and the holidays are close at hand.
I'm sure 4-5 cases will be used up in the next month.

Thank you both (pbm as well).  Being single the past several years has allowed me to divert more of my "disposable" income in this direction.  Besides CT, I am limited by visuals and memory.  I try hard to update at least 2-3 times/week, although I am lax on tasting notes and events.  The cellar is pretty regional so I know about where everything is (+/- one row).  Biggest challenge is when I need/want something out of one of the wooden cases ... always seems to be the one on the bottom of the stack.

This is what the space looked like before I got started ... back and left walls below grade.
(NoCapacity ... may have figured this out!?

I came up with my own solution.

These pictures make me think of the ending of Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark/beginning of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

All the wonders that must lie in those crates!

Just built our new home in the Chicago 'burbs, and moved in 3 weeks go.  I had the builder make a small cellar (4X12) in the basement with racking along one 12 foot wall. Not big enough to hang out in, but big enough to hold what I need.  Sitting at about 150 bottles, and can probably go up to 400 before I run out of room.  The basement itself is finished, tricked-out with all the requisite guy stuff like a home theater, gym, etc., but the "cellar" is an unfinished work in progress as my time has been limited with the move-in, etc..  Below grade foundation walls on 2 of the 4 sides, and a wood framed thermopane glass exterior door.  Still need to insulate and vapor barrier the 2 interior walls.  I was planning on installing a cooling unit, but even uninsulated, the temp inside the cellar has been a constant 62 and the humidity is around 50%, so I may end up skipping the unit and spending the money on wine instead.

Very Nice tacman..

Well I started out with a Avanti 32,  and converted that to cigars and wine,, and added a Haier 32, and kept it upstairs for daily stuff.
Never thought I could get the variety I wanted with those I bought a Avanti 166.. and I love it. Pics below if it worked. Door actually has a handle, but I didnt install it, looks better without it.
If i run out of space I have the 32 bottles units  for overflow or for larger bottles.

Austin's a great town!
Although, yesterday it went from 80 degrees to 32 degrees/snow (okay, more like freezing rain/sleet/slushy) in a matter of 10 hours.
Hard to believe I lived through 27 Minnesota winters ... now a cold-weather wuss.

42 bottle Perlick fridge and a 20 case offsite locker that is half full.

Notice the white thing at the ceiling?  It is a battery operated motion sensor alarm...  My daughter used to open the fridge without my permission.  When the door is opened there is a 10 second wait time then a loud alarm goes off   After one try she knows I mean business and never try again!

Hey tacman  (Is that short for tachycardia?)

That's not my question though.  I was ogling your cellar and I noticed that in your photo - at the upper left, some of the bottles are reversed.  Any reason?

I like the fact that there is only one bottle left in that wooden stand.

Interestingly enough (for a wine geek) your cellar looks exactly the same as the in-laws who live in Lille (same part of the world as belgium for the non-Europeans on the list).

These are all nice. I like the variations. Gives me ideas for the future in my house.

My current "Cellar is three chillers -- one 18-bottle Edgestar, one 12-bottle Edgestar, and one 12-bottle Avanti -- and one cedar closet with a garage-facing wall. The closet has a 48-bottle rack and some shelves. Eventually the closet will be converted to a legit cellar.

Also have space in a storage facility across the river.

TAC is my initials, which I shorten to TC ... one of my nurses came up with tacman when Pacman (Jones) was big and it stuck.
The racks you see on both sides are actually pillars that are double-deep racks, with wall units all the way around the outside wall.  The left pillar has burgundy and bordeaux on the outside, with white burg on the inside front and Rhone starting on the inside back ... the "backward" bottles are pushed through from the other side, so you are seeing some red burg pushed into the white burg section.
If this sounds a bit confusing ... some nights it is!

Superbarre,

I really like the brick mini-caves (for lack of a better term)...did you have those built or were they already in place when you moved in?
