Chateau La Clemence 2005 Pomerol. I am down to my last 3 bottles of the 80 I bought. This is definitely one of my top 3 wines that I have tasted more in my life. A solid 95 pts.

A 1998 Chateau Musar, with pizzas! Not the best bottle I've ever had, but still excellent as usual.

I love Musar, but I never would have thought to pair it with pizza. Intriguing!

Nouveau is just fun. Every once in a while it’s nice to drink a wine that you don’t have to swirl and sip, trying to detect nuances on the nose or palate.

You just gulp in and laugh with your family and friends.

A little late reporting this, as our Philly gang's holiday dinner was last Saturday. We did aged elevation Cabs, which I was happy to supply our 3 bottles:

2002 Lokoya Howell Mountain (my last bottle of any vintage, and one I probably won't purchase again.... not because I don't like it, but because I like Arkenstone Obsidian Howell Mountain better and it's half the price)
2002 Lokoya Diamond Mountain (3 bottles left of this, and I ain't sharing none of them. This, to me, is the perfect representation of the appellation)
2012 Hill Family Estate Atlas Peak (my last bottle of this vineyard from this vintage)

Quite frankly, each one was delicious. Out of our panel of 9, only 1 person ranked the Atlas Peak as their favorite. 2 voted for the Howell Mountain. It opened a little tight and tannic, but massively improved as the night went on. The rest, including my wife & me, put the Diamond Mountain at the top of the list. The table agreed that any of the three would have been a pleasure to drink.

Other wines that evening:

2005 J.J. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Spatlese - this just keeps getting better every bottle we open. 2007 was our favorite but the 2005 has surpassed it now. Of Prüm's Spatlesens this century, only 2001 tops the 2005 in our opinion.
There were also 2 bottles of Champagne, but I can't remember them. I was too busy with the Prüm. Sue me.

So I decided that for Christmas I wanted to go very old style and chose the Viña Tondonia reserva 2010 and Faustino I Gran reserva 2010. Although both were delicious , the Tondonia is on another level. Very similar to old Bordeaux to me, like drinking 70s Bdx specially the Tondonia. Tondonia 93pts Faustino a solid 90 pointer.

2015 Schloss Vollrads Riesling Spatlese - This used to be a bargain up to this vintage at under $20 a bottle. It seems to have gone up significantly in the last few years, but that's Post Pandemic Life with Inflation for you.

2018 de Negocè Diamond Mountain OG #40 - VERY good tonight, with blatantly obvious potential. It was completely worth the gamble.

1997 Felsina Berardenga Classico Chianti Riserva - Just about the perfect bottle of Chianti.

Chateau Pavie 2003. Amazing. Have no idea why many think Pavie as an over the top Bdx. Mine was impresive, elegant, classy. 94 pts

Buoncristiani The Core Cab 2006. When the ribeyes and filet arrived it was a beautiful match. 93 pts.

Last wines of the year for me as tomorrow I leave very early to McAllen with the family and in laws for some shopping and pick up some wine.

Torbreck RunRig 2005
Caymus SS 2007
Ch. Pavie 2008
Maybach Amoenus 2016

All extremely delicious. WOTN: Pavie 97 pts ( the 6 of us had it at WOTN, so no contest!)

The Caymus was EXTREMELY smooth, this was not your typical 2012 onwards Caymus. Extremely elegant, round, zero heat. 94 pts
Amoenus was the most hedonistic, alcoholic, exhuberant of all. 94 pts
Torbreck RunRig was red cherry over cherry pie, tobacco, even some kind of basil note. 94 pts.

I know Pavie is a very divisive wine but for me it has always been my prefered style, either blind or not blind. I wish the wine would not be that expensive, but it is worth it at least for special moments.
