  • 2016 Weinmanufaktur Untertürkheim Orange 88 Points

    Germany, Württemberg

    Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
First orange wine of this cooperative. Cuvee of various grapes, biggest part I guess is Pinot gris. Fermented on the skins in used Barriques. No added Sulphur.
Drunk over three days. Clear, medium onion skin color. Clean, medium intense, youthful-developing nose with an interesting mix of spices (anise, cloves), Apricots and some citrus.
Dry (2,6g/l residual sugar), lively acidity, 13% abv, soft tannin. On the palate some lots of phenols, ripe yellow fruit, onion, spices and some bitterness. Medium finish. Still very young, though I don’t have a clue how it will develop. This wine goes very well with food (vegetables), but is a bit exhausting when drunk without. 88+, mediocre PQR.

  • 1992 Schloss Lieser Riesling Trocken 85 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Riedel Vinum Riesling
Gift from a friend. Did not expect much as this is a dry, entry level Riesling from a rather mediocre Vintage from the Mosel. But what a surprise!
Clear, pale lemon golden color. I would have guessed around 5 years of age but never 26! Clean, medium intense nose. Lots of petrol, but also fine yellow fruit, saltiness and rather fresh.
Dry. Medium+, lively acidity that is a bit unbalanced, tart and nervous. Low alcohol with 9,5% abv, medium- body. On the palate lots of saltiness: salt brine with ripe citrus. A bit reminding me of mineral water used for healing. Slate, fine yellow stone fruit. Medium finish. Lean and elegant and I would have never expected it to be older than 10 years. What a great surprise it was! Has no potential for development, but no need to hurry either. 85-86.

  • 2012 Schäfer-Fröhlich Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen Riesling Großes Gewächs 92 Points

    Germany, Nahe

    Glass: Riedel Vinum Riesling
Tasted blind. Clear, medium lemon-golden color. Clean, medium intense, youthful-developing nose with a nice fine yellow fruit, smoke, spices (anise, caraway) and a bit “dark” slate. Opens up with air and gets better and better over time. No sign of SF’s sponti stinker…
Dry, with some noticeable residual sugar. Medium acidity, perfectly integrated. 13% abv. On the palate rather young with still some slight tingling carbon dioxide bubbles. With air it develops a nice tension, is very elegant and balanced. Driven by mineral notes, woven with some fine, ripe yellow fruit and some spices and herbs. Medium+ finish. Still very young with a good potential. Give it 3-5+ years to develop. 91-92++

  • 2011 Schloss Gobelsburg Grüner Veltliner 1ÖTW Reserve Renner 88 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal

    Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
Tasted blind. Clear, beautiful medium golden color. Clean, medium intense, developing nose with some ripe citrus, coconut, marzipan.
Dry. Lacks a bit of acidity, which is medium- at best. Hence a bit soapy on the palate. A bit baroque and one-dimensional on the palate. Some white and yellow fruit, some pepper. Could not identify the grape variety. Drink up, it will not get any better. 87-88

  • 2015 E. Guigal Condrieu La Doriane 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Condrieu

    Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
20.000 bottles made. 35hl/h yield. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium+/pronounced, youthful nose with typical Condrieu aromas: floral notes (fresh blossoms), orange oil, apricot, spices, herbs and in the far back some oak/toasting notes. Intense, very complex perfume. Maybe too intense?
Dry, with medium (-) acidity and high alcohol (14,9% abv). This combination of rather low acidity and high alcohol makes it a bit difficult for me. This wine is surely very well made and complex: Lots of floral notes, apricot, orange zests, oak but also a very nice mineral core. Lots of extract, pressure. Long, lingering finish. Massive and concentrated. For me a bit too much! Will it develop? I don’t know, but according to Guigal’s own recommendation I guess not. So, enjoy over the course of the next 2-3 years, best in combination with food. 93-94. PQR is ok.

  • 2016 Julian Haart Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett 88 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Riedel Vinum Riesling
Clear, pale lemon color. Clean, medium- intense, rather muted and youthful nose with lots of notes from spontaneous fermentation and sulphur. Some white fruit and slate.
Off-dry, with a medium+ still nervous acidity. Low alcohol (8,5% abv), light body. Medium intense flavors of citrus, white peach, yellow fruit, salty mineral notes. Very puristic and focused. Medium finish. Let it rest for 2-3+ years to full blossom. 87-88++.

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Riedel Vinum Riesling
Tasted blind. Clear, medium-deep golden color. Clean, medium+ developing nose that immediately reveals its origin: Herbs (dill), tangerine, mineral notes, ripe yellow fruit. Typical Grünhaus, complex, deep and multi-layered.
Medium dry. Medium+/high acidity, perfectly integrated. 9,0% abv. Medium+ intense, lovely flavors of black tee, herbs, tangerine, Apricot, salty mineral notes. All echoing on the palate for long time. Almost Auslese style quality! Lots of extract, creamy, cool, vibrant and elegant. On its peak now, will stay there for at least a decade. Really wonderful! 93+

Very elegant, balanced, lean and youthful. Long, lingering finish. This bottle needs at least 3-5+ years to full maturity. Really surprising. 92-93+

  • 2011 Quinta da Plansel Júlia Lindemann Limited Edition 87 Points

    Portugal, Alentejano, Vinho Regional Alentejano

    Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
Top wine of Plansel. Cuvee of Touriga Nacional and Tinta Barocca. Clear, deep ruby color. Clean, medium intense, youthful-developing nose that always reminds me of Touriga Nacional. Spices (cinnamon), blueberry, lactic notes, some oak. A bit like new world Malbec.
Dry, medium acidity. Medium, silky tannin. High alcohol (15,5% abv), that is quite well integrated on the palate but a bit hot at the finish. On the palate a bit like a soft, light port. Lots of extract sweetness, ripe dark fruit (blueberry), spices, some oak. Velvet and mouth coating, uncomplicated. Medium finish, a bit hot. Will stay on this level for 10+ years, but won’t improve. 87+. Mediocre PQR.
