  • 2009 Schloss Vaux Erbacher Marcobrunn Riesling Brut 87 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

Rich and spicy Marcobrunn character, some 2009-honey and heat, good length. Nice enough but in a way neither here nor there. A bit of a conundrum.

  • 1998 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Wonderfully fresh and perfectly mature, lovely interplay of slate and fruit, intense and light, very clean and elegant, energetic and long. Delightful.

  • 1981 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 92 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

AP 1 88 - a late release. Needs a little time to open up after twenty-five years in the bottle - the last glass was clearly the best. Only off-dry by now but wonderfully fresh and elegant, hardly showing its age and certainly not tired, floral and slatey nose with a sea-breeze; Sonnenuhr-peach, candied lemon and wax on the palate, energetic and intense; very good length. Perfectly balanced and at ease with itself.

  • 2009 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Decanted for about two hours. Flowers and silk, scented and supple, impeccable harmony, balance and elegance, real Chambolle charm; good weight of wonderfully creamy ripe red fruit (cherries and a hint of rosehip), perfectly integrated oak gives a hint of spice, seamless, precise, very good minerality, backbone of ripe acidity and elegant tannins; excellent length. Incredibly delicious, real finesse, textbook Chambolle, so seductive, addictive even.

  • 2010 Heinrich Beerenauslese 92 Points

    Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee

From the Salzberg and Gabarinza vineyards. Bottled 19-12-2011. Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch. There was a lot of noble rot in the vineyards and Heike and Gernot Heinrich decided to go with nature rather than against it and made a (31 KMW) BA rather than a dry red. Wonderfully honeyed and sweet, spicy (elevage in 500 litre oak barrels), nice balancing acidity - just a touch low perhaps, intense but well-balanced, just a hint of caramel, delicious candied red fruit, very good length. Does not seem to have the structure and harmony of the very best, but a thoroughly delicious wine.
