  • Dark red, slightly garnet and pale edged. Nose of spicy celeriac, ground coffee, black cherry, olives, with more subtle notes of leather and old books. On arrival, low-medium fine tannin and low-medium acidity; tannins get drier and stronger with two hours air. Delicate in the mouth once one gets blast the blast of oak, there's some dark cherry fruit here still pushing this wine along. Finish is nicely finessed, considering the oak. From magnum, bottle #1 of one.

  • Wow - this is a young-tasting wine! Amazingly dark, red/purple color. Initially had a bit of funk on the nose, but this blew off pretty quickly. Initial nose was honeylocust, followed by cedar and sage, with some dirt - but in a good way - as the evening wore on. Still some drying tannins, but overall well balanced, with ripe red fruits - cranberry? - just starting to throw off some secondary flavors of tea and some saddle. Medium-bodied. This is a really tasty wine that is drinking great now, and probably has at least a few more years at this level.

  • Nose of chocolate and cherry. Thick, tannic, blackberry liqueor.

  • Tasted at the Quilceda/Margaux standoff at the Herbfarm. Blood, cranberry/ lots of structure/ medium, somewhat drying finish. (NOTE: I really rather preferred the 89 regular bottling I had with Patrick a few weeks ago. It seemed a lot more balanced than this one.)
