  • Slightly roasted nose, but there are no warm or roasted notes on the palate. More rustic in style compared to the 2004 Gour de Chaule, also drier with marked tannins. Vertical, stony, no particular tertiary notes yet. Will probably keep but I worry about the dryness.

  • My initial impression was acidic, tannic and spicy with sweetish, drying out jammy fruit, but as it opened up it developed a smooth velvety texture and a delighted ethereal finish. Yes, it was a tad astringent but coupled with a surprising freshness it counterbalanced the sweetness perfectly. Still life in the old dog yet. CHP 89 pts

  • Brought this a long with the 2003 Valbelle, and while the latter was - as expected - a succes among the punters (H), I preferred this one, really shining for the first time, displaying the terroir; Sweet Grenache, yes, but also that cool, stony feel, that is Gigondas. You really have to wait for the wines. In a perfect spot IMHO.

  • (From magnum) This pours dark ruby. The nose is moderate intensity, low complexity showing dark cherry, bay leaf, tar, and a touch of black olive. The palate enters on bright berry tinged fruit, turning to medium minus, slightly bitter tannin arguments by medium acid. The finish lingers nicely on the mixed berry fruit.

  • Grabbed four bottles of this at auction for $20 apiece. Fine red brick color. Needs time exposed to air to wake up but a couple of hours standing in a decanter and then poured back and forth between decanters gave it some zing that it lacked on initial tasting. Definitely on the decline but still very pleasant to drink.
