This is on song. I don't think it can get any better for this wine in it's journey or for Australian merlot for that matter. Voted WOTN by our Beefstak&Burgundy club members at last night's dinner (matched slow roasted lamb shanks). Ifr you have this in your cellar you are in for a treat.

James Irvine always fucking delivers. This is one of the true grand Merlots of Australia, Barossa-bred. Deep garnet in the glass. Blast of jaminess, but also freshness on the nose. Lots of complexity from everything in forms of fresh fruit, cooked fruit, oak spices, oriental spices. Beautiful. Superbly balanced on the palate, very soft on the tannin front with moderate acidity. Drinking perfectly well now, so don't wait until it starts declining.

I'll try to restrict my tasting notes on this wine to one a year to track it's progress. Massive concentrated prune essence nose, concentrated old vine merlot that is highly extracted - it has soy/unami/prune/cigar box/bonox/vegemite flavours swirling around. With the right (rich) food it is a perfect match. Would love to see how it goes in a blind tasting with the Great Merlots of the World.

Soy, honey, leather, bonox, marmite. So intense and concentrated and super smacking of umami. A joy.

Light liquorice, soy sauce, forest floor, honey, vanilla, leather, dry finishing with plum, tobacco leaves ... very nice now ...
