Dice have been with us a long, long time. Early shamans tossed bones to divine the intent of the gods. Homer's Iliad mentions Theban dice. The Roman legions passed the time in siege by rolling dice on the backs of their shields, betting equipment and food. Richard the Lionheart was a fan of Hazard, which was the name the game had as it made its way to the New World. The game of Craps we know today offers a bettor the best odds against the house. But it's easy to get caught up in the frenzy of this most sociable casino game, so watch yourself. This merlot has aromas of cherry, red current, raspberry, cocoa powder, cinnamon stick, sandalwood, and black olive. The palate is round, soft but vibrant, with good complexity, firm yet pliable tannins, and good bones with plenty of flesh.

This is the second time I have opened this wine for a party. Both times it attracted tons of attention. So, I have to disagree with the previous ratings. I opened the wine immediately using my Venturi. The nose was complex and fruity. The wine itself had the taste of berries and currants with a hint of vanilla and was not at all acidic. The finish was smootha long-lasting. This was a fabulous wine that continues to get better with age.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Slightly hot nose of white pepper, black olives, fertilizer and maybe some plum. Flavors of black berries and a small splash of currants. Light acidity, light to medium tannins, light to medium body. Nanosecond like finish. Drink now if you must. The second freshly opened bottle was marginally better.

somewhat jammy, low acid, oak is integrated and was fine to drink for what it is, but not my preferred style of aged Merlot

blackfruit and decidedly meaty on the nose. Palate lacks some fleshy fruit feel. something floral. obviously more oak influence here. not my favorite.
