Not your standard Zin. This has lots of flavor and complexity. Earthy, rich cherry. Not too round. Long tasty finish. Medium to full body. No sediment. Tannins evident, as is the 15% alcohol, a point deducted. Definitely a food wine. Went well with cheese and hamburgers. Fruitiness starting to fade. May last another 2 years in the cellar.

I kind of think that I learned a lot from this wine. I tried to open it up and decant it for awhile. When I finally decided to try it, it had a earthy-barnyard and raw meat smell with some pomegranate/ strawberry twizzler on the nose. When I tasted it, there were some raw mushrooms, black pepper, and it was a little bit stemy. I kind of enjoyed the tannins, but they seemed to over power everything else that was going on. I then gave up on the wine, put it back into the bottle, and suctioned the air out. Last night, I attempted the wine again. The raw meat on the nose became more like bacon and the rest of the smell become muted.....not much there at all. When I drank the wine, it was totally different. It had a silky mouth feel, the tannins were well integrated, and the the wine tasted like roasted red berries (like they were stuffed in a baked turkey) with no sweetness. It then finished with sour cherry like favors. It's was really good.

PnP. Clear, deep dark purple color. Mellow nose and taste. Very well made wine, wonderful balance, med body, decent finish, soft but proper flavor. Good drinking window, nothing off. $28.

This was way past the drink-by date, however, after decanting for 30 minutes the wine drank as good as it did when young. Classic Zin style.

Good zin. A peppery blackberry aroma. Good fruit flavor also with a small pepper kick at the end. Definitely worth a try.
