  While still holding on, this is nearing the end of its drinking window as the floral aroma and the dark fruits are starting to give way to the non-fruit tones expressed above, and a layer of what I might call 'wet musty wood' is starting to set in. Drink up.

  This wine would have been a powerhouse Merlot 5 years ago but now it's just OK. The nose is astoundingly floral with notes fresh spring flowers and honey. In the mouth is where this wine falls a short, the fruit just doesn't quite hold up and the tannins are a bit flappy. I would have loved to drink this earlier but I got a case at $10 per bottle so it's fine as a daily wine.

  Opened 1 hr before dinner, drunk over about 2 hours. Really inviting nose of brambly blackberries. On the palate, blackberry and black currant flavors with quite a bit of spice, cured meats, fine-grained drying tannins, and some heat on the finish that mellowed with time in the glass. The aromas were my favorite part of this wine. I think the release price for this was around $40, but I found it for $15 and was quite happy with it at that price - I think it's held up pretty well and has the structure to go on for a few more years. I'm tempted to get another bottle and hold onto it a little while to see whether it develops further.
