  • A hokey, artificially dusted and wonky bottle of non-vintage supermarket CdP. Feels blasphemous and probably is, but despite the heinous level of giftshop-level marketing wrapping the juice, the contents are passably tolerable if you can ignore the fact it's being sold as a Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

A somewhat homogeneous and predictable blend of stewed plum, pepper, chocolate, cranberry and cherry permeate the palate, with notes of forest floor, lavender, mushroom, leather and strawberry offering a mediocre nose. Things are pretty soft and easy-rolling here (albiet unsubstantial) with a gentle yet lingering finish trailing behind a smooth, medium body. Considering the QPR is middling at best, you could do better as you start exploring the region's style without spending as much. You're basically paying for a novelty bottle here.

  • Brought this to my ex-colleague's place for a gathering.

Beautiful aromatics on the nose, wild floral bouquet and vibrant violets and mushrooms. The Grenache feels so light and elegant on the nose and palate, like the gentle spring breeze caressing the sides of the cheeks.

Wine got better and better and better as the evening went by. Do give your bottle some breathing space because it will do your wine a lot of good.

My last bottle in the collection; this has been one of my favorites when I started wine appreciate eons ago. My knowledge of wines has since grown by leaps and bounds, and my palate more receptive to different grape varietals and wines from different terriors. Perhaps will keep a respectable distance from this wine for the foreseeable future.

  • Opened this at home over dinner with my spouse's ex-colleagues and family. We ordered food from Chef's Hat.

Purple in colour with rich and ripe plums. Tonight the elements were integrated and working hard to make the wine shine, so no issues there. Soft, supple and rounded on the palate. Smooth finish.

Starting to resemble the CDP that I fell in love with more than a decade ago.

  • Brought this to Jin Long Seafood Restaurant for lunch with my best friend from the university days. We ordered the Scallop and Banana Bakgua Roll, Crispy Eggplant with French Bean, Big Prawn with Chef Special Sauce, and Fried Mee Sua with seafood.

Bright purple in colour with a slight garnet rim. An inviting and complex bouquet on the nose. Fresh notes of ripe red berries, dark cherries, and a subtle hint of plum, with a cloak of warm spices and a touch of earthiness.

On the palate, while the balance between the fruits and earthiness is showing nicely, the body lacks punch and character. Made in a lighter style, the Grenache-dominant wine lack the precision and depth of character found in some single-vintage Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines.

As my date correctly pointed out, while this was one of our favourites from the early drinking days, it may be time to move on.

  • Brought this to Chui Xiang Kitchen for dinner with my wine mates. Theme of the evening: Wines that start with the letter P.

Bottle breathed for 8 hours. Dark purple in colour. Notes of berries, fresh strawberries, cherries, rose petals with hints of black pepper, cinnamon and cloves on the nose. On the palate, the wine is mid-weight and carries layers of blackberries, blackcurrants, and a touch of juicy raspberries.

A captivating wine that beautifully showcases the essence of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. May need a bit more time for the elements to come together and integrate nicely.
