Valandrau vertical (1991-2020) (Fribourg): Selected tasting notes from a complete Valandraud vertical (1991-2020) hosted by a collector with an estate representative. Main observation was that both the work the estate did during the transition phase 2000-2012 is clearly bearing fruit in more recent vintages, further helped by warmer growing seasons that are favorable for this cool site in St Emillon. Additional comments included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: A multi-facetted and precise wine. Ripe red cherry fruit, spice and herbal seasoning. Just a whiff of minerality. The palate showed strong presence, a more fresh and lighter fruit. The body is built more around the linear, vigorous acidity. Solid tension leading into a long finish.

Popped ans poured at a wine bar. Last bottle of a seven-hour drinking marathon, which was a mistake, as I should have had this one first. Soft tanins and within the prime drinking window. Highly recommended.

as is often the case with Bordeaux, age helps... this bottle had the lift and acidity that I like but also more fruit than my bottle 7 years ago... beautiful if not epic

Chocolate, cassis, mocha and sweet plum fruit on the nose. Palate is rich and powerful, crafted in a modern style. It requires extensive decanting to bring the best out of it.

Slightly clouded scarlett color. Strawberry, red currant, sweet oak, cassis and orange rind. Vibrant palate with great chalky tannins
p.s. buttermilk brined chicken, charred broccoli and pierogis
