  • I don't know about you but I still can't adjust to seeing "Chardonnay" on the front label of a good white Burgundy. It betrays a certain conservatism borne of my advanced age, perhaps a longing for an era when men were men and capable of remembering what's supposed to be in a bottle of Bourgogne blanc.

This wine is a pale gold color, with a fruit-driven, but not effusive nose. Ripe yellow apples predominate with hints of pineapple and tangerine peeking through. The tears are substantial, and in fact the ripe vintage characteristics translate to 14% labeled ABV. Surprisingly full, well-nigh creamy body that suggests a pedigree beyond simple Bourgogne, finishing with a touch of lemon curd sweetness and a deft bit of wood.

An excellent glass of Bourgogne blanc, I mean chardonnay.

  • Pnp then retasted one day after. Expressive wine with nice structure of good acidity and bitterness, aromas of fresh white flowers and white pepper the day one, ending nicely mineral. Second day the structure is even more strong, and minerality more packed, still intensive with chalk and a hint of heat at the end. Needs more years to settle, at least a day in a fridge. 89-91.

  • Nose: pear, lime, hints of apricot and baked apple, white flowers, blanched almonds/macadamia, crème fraîche. Wet rock.

Palate: Acidity underlays a considerably thick, silky, rich mouthfeel. Med+/high alcohol.

After a full day tasting premium niagara wines, it’s nice to get a taste for the benchmark.

  • Popped and poured at around 15 degrees celsius on a hot spring evening.

On the nose: baked apples, lemon, hints of vanilla and stealiness.

On the palate: lime, lime skin, richness and depth come through on this wines with unfurling mineral notes, spiced cinnamon, and salinity. As the wine opened up there were hints of pineapple or passionfruit notes coming through but those were really subtle.

I'm a huge fan of this wine that drinks way above it's level. This will evolve for the next 5 years.
