  • Decanted 8 hours. Smoke and strawberries. Well integrated and elegant.

  • Color of light to medium red. Scents of cherry and strawberry. Tastes consistent with scents, and good level of acidity. It’s super interesting to now see what the new owners of Kosta Browne have done with this out of Burgundy as contrasted against what they (initially KB themselves and recently the new owners) have historically been doing in California over the years. Certainly achieved what I’d assume was their goal to do a wine with a style that’s Burgundian, and very very different from the super ripe and super big ones from California.

  • We are big fans of Kosta-Browne, so when they released a Burgundy series there was no doubt we would try it! This was indeed early to open this wine, but wanted to get an idea about future buying and if it is worth the higher price tag over the California Pinots they produce so amazingly. We decanted it for 1.5hrs and enjoyed with a mushroom risotto (which may not have been the best match for food, honestly, next time we'll drink with baby lamb chops). It had a deep purple color with ruby undertones, dark fruit and slight spice note on the nasal. This had soft tannins and is fruit forward with dark berries and a lovely sweetness and subtle hints of leather & tobacco. The finish was on the med-short end but overall very good, but we personally find it on the lighter side for a Kosta pinot. It will be fun to compare to the other Burgundy's released from them such as the Volnay or Pommard. (26Jan23 - from 93 to 92 - as we attempt to review more wines on CellarTracker we are still trying to hone a less subjective grading system. But given that most CT scores of 93+ are stellar - this was not at that level)
