I had misgivings about buying this wine (15.5% at least) and guess what....I was right! Hot, hard, generic dry red fruits. Burn on the finish. How are these styles still made?

Very dark brooding inky red. Opaque. Oily tannins make the first impact, but with more smelling dark stewed berries and warm spices come through, plus eucalyptus and cloves. Flavours on tasting are the initial red fruit acidity, and dry tannins. Not too austere and its youth shows; a few years would soften the tannins and meld them in with the fruit. There's mint, menthol and eucalyptus oil from the alcohol, some warmth but nicely balanced. Good first impressions. Day 2, a lovely fresh Shiraz reveals itself. Plenty of peppery spiciness, nice red fruit acidity, softened tannins, fresh and knitted together - excellent!
