This isn't a red race car, but a purple Porsche. The color is deep purple and the nose is blackberry jam with a hint of pleasant pipe tobacco. The first tastes mirror the nose with a tremendous depth and perfectly grippy tannins with a pleasant finish. Really nice balance of fruit, depth and tannins.
This is a powerhouse wine that paired perfectly with a Steak Florentine, baked sweet potatoes with butter and scallions and buttered asparagus. It would have likely overpowered anything else.
Decanted for around 30 minutes and the wine was perfect.
I was at at 93-94 and my wife was at a 92-93, so we settled on a 93. Getting a couple more bottles.

This is unashamedly big, thick, and viscous. It tastes like a bunch of fruit, oak logs, and steroids were steeped in a vat of motor oil. There's obviously a market for this syrupy concoction but it's not for me.
