  • Prior bottle was 23 months ago and this wine has improved along the lines I'd hoped. Red and black cherry along with strawberry and raspberry to go with the earth and spice notes on the nose. Medium bodied with a very similar fruit profile to my prior bottle: red cherry and red raspberry upfront, adding deeper red cherry and raspberry through the middle with strawberry and tart red cherry behind. The mid-body has continued to open up and the wine feels slightly more integrated on the backside. Tannins are well balanced with the fruit and provide good structure on the back in a fashion that works well with the fruit. Minerals, spices and earth through the finish. The mineral notes contribute clarity to the wine overall. Served from cellar temp (55F and warmed to 64F), it felt like the cooler temperature allowed the fruit charter to shine and allowed the structural qualities to stay balanced. Showing well at present, but still with additional upside, in line with current expectations/rating. I'll plan to open my next bottle in Q1 2025.

  • First wine of this vintage and it did not disappoint. Initially it was a little tart when samples, but a liitle time in the decanter got rid of that and really allowed the cherry and rasberry flavors to stand out! Had some spice on the backend but did not overpower the fruit during a medium length finish. Plenty of life left in the bottle so will wait until Q1 ‘25 to have another one but it can be enjoyed now for sure! A solid Sta Rita Hills Pinot and another great one for Gavin!

  • Normally wouldn't open this so early, but wanted to asses as the 2020s are coming out and the only prior vintage from this site was the 2013. Red cherry, strawberry and raspberry along with spices and earth notes. Medium bodied (13.5% ABV) with red raspberry and red cherry that gains depth the longer it's open. Mid-body is more balanced the 2013 was with some black cherry, dark red raspberry and some high toned red cherry and strawberry behind. There's a real richness through the middle with excellent density and very good complexity, all the while, neatly integrated with the backside and structural qualities. Spices notes on the backside are also more in balance than the 2013. Finished with tannins and acidity that match well with the fruit and then spices, earth and minerals that provide good length. With four hours open, already showing well and should continue along that trajectory. Next bottle for me, late Q1 2023.
