Quintessence is in my top two or three favorite vineyards, seemingly producing stellar wines from multiple vintners. However, this time something went a bit sideways. It’s fine, but has an odd plum flavor overriding all else. Prospice’s track record, albeit kinda short, is excellent, so it’s hard to point the finger there. Nonetheless, it’s a step short of well balanced and yummy.

Doran's. Perfumey, complex oak, sweet violets, black fruit: I thought it more likely to be petit verdot than cabernet. Quite engaging; I'll bet the remains were killer the next day.

As soon as the cork was removed aromas of dark fruit leaped out of the bottle. A quick taste before decanting showed that this wine was still wrapped up tight, but three hours later it was a different story. Fresh dark fruit flavors echoed the earlier aromas, but savory notes added to the complexity. It was a great accompaniment to the dark braised chuck roast based on an Edward Lee recipe.

Dark fruits, blackberries, low tanins, with a buttery finish. Good but not great. Would not buy again
