We really surprised by the adequacy of this wine. The nose was pinched and limited - no real distinctive qualities. The body was very monolithic - dark red fruits fully extracted with no layers or multiple flavors. Overall a disappointing both of wine for the scores and reviews.

Intensely flavored with dark berries, spice, and black olives. For all that, the fruit is very pronounced. Well integrated; dark and brooding. Very enjoyable.

My only bottle, and I'm sure consumed too young, but made for an interesting compare/contrast with an '05 Saxum Heart Stone. While the Saxum was more typical California Syrah, this seemed to be a bit of an outlier, but not necessarily in a bad way. Loads of dark fruit, a hint of bacon fat, but a bit of a sweet or candied element that detracted somewhat. Not as good as the '04 IMO.

big rich dark fruit still and very enjoyable! Probably has a few years left.

My least favorite of the tasting but I was in the minority. Port-like, hot on finish and pruny.
