  • The concrete egg one - nice and crisp.

  • Not in love with this one. Solid, but unremarkable. Oddly a little sweet on opening, but that faded as it opened and warmed up a little.

  • Failla PNs are always elegant

  • We opened this magnum last night to kick off the Dundee Fire Santa Parade with about a dozen friends. A definite hit after about 20 minutes of air. I agree with others that this had some roundness to it. Not quite "California typical" but more than Burgundy or even many of the Oregon examples of this famed vineyard. Overall a very pleasant experience that everyone seemed to enjoy.

  • I very intensely enjoyed this. In a way, I agree with the previous commenter that it's kind of exactly in the middle of a bigger, richer CA style and a more precise/complex Burg style, but instead of finding it "master of none", in this case I think it was really effective in slowing the best traits of *both* styles, a very rare thing, especially in Chardonnay. Full and rich, but very precise and with good complexity, without canceling itself out.

A little shy on the nose at this early stage but deeply pitched with yellow and green apple, vivid almond bars/marzipan/croissant, subtle but present minerality with wet stone or chalk, etc. Maybe some little floral tones also, white flowers, etc. That distinct kind of almond/vanilla combo on the nose was extremely beautiful and let the fruit itself have plenty of breathing room.

Palate was where the precision kicked in, very dense and powdery rich texture but with tons of lemon bar, almond, lots more wet stone and a long, lingering acid line that never quit from entry to finish, nor became needlessly tart. "Balance" is far from the most important thing for me in wine, but it was pretty striking just how well-balanced this was.

It's really the almond thing that stood out to me, but this is a great chard on many levels and excellent QPR for under $50. Of all the amazing chards we tried that Oregon trip at Failla, Kelley Fox, Evening Land, and Lingua Franca, this was my favorite, especially when QPR is taken into account.
