  • Gold-green in color. Honey, mint, green apples on the nose. The palate is precise and well defined. Pineapple (but not overpowering), lemon zest, lime. Little discernible oak, just some accents. Beautiful acidity, great balance. Honey notes on the mid-palate highlighted by the acidity. Finishes long with green apples and cinnamon notes. Lovely. Drink now and over the next 5 years.

  • All Good Things Must Come to An End - For Now!

If you’ve been following my posts for the last couple of weeks you’ll have seen a trend. All the wines that I had reviewed were from one winery - - Three Sticks Wines!

Not surprising really, as these wines made up their most recent release; seven wines, 3 Chardonnays, 2 Pinot Noirs, 1 Pinot Blanc, and 1 Rosé. Every one of them outstanding as far as I’m concerned and I think that my reviews will back that up.

Well, this is the last of the bunch. The

Three Sticks “One Sky” Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay 2018

From their “One Sky” Vineyard situated on the Eastern Slopes of the Sonoma Mountains and not far from their iconic “Gap’s Crown” Vineyard, the grapes are grown at elevations from 900 to 1,400 feet, unusual for most Chardonnay production but from the results, extremely successful.

I’ve talked before how I like mountain fruit, mostly as it pertains to reds, but in this case, it works just as well. The rich wine opening with aromas of almonds and a touch of honey along with a slight hint of citrus. It transforms into a lush wine on the palate as it brings forth notes of pear and apple lingering on the tongue while you sense that same honeyed note and creaminess in texture that lingers to the long finish.

In this, the winery’s most recent release, there were 3 Chardonnays and as Bill Price said himself, he doesn’t want to make wines that are too similar. I can attest that he and his crew were successful. The “Origin” Unoaked Chardonnay, crisp and clean, the “Gap’s Crown” Chardonnay, big and rich, and finally, the “One Sky” Chardonnay lending its fruit-driven style with that creaminess I touched on.

It’s no wonder why I am so infatuated with this winery and have been for some time. It’s starting to sound like I’ve been alone for too long….Either way, they make some great wines and worthy of checking out. To top it off, as I’ve met more and more of the staff, I’ve come to know them not just as a business but as friends.

If you give them a call I’m sure they’ll help walk you through their selections and what might best suit your tastes. So For Now “All Good Things Must Come to An End!”

    Cheers
